There's gonna be a huge dissonance between generations unlike anything we've seen before.
Some of us just won't "get it"
i will
we already headin that second route
every new gen artist, especially coming from the underground, isn't really unique, they just sound like keef/carti clones, i feel like due to this, we will basically have a big fatigue in the mainstream and everything interesting will be happening in the underground
I honestly feel like if remix culture took itself a lil more serious we'd have a massive EDM resurgence in hip hop and many artists from the 10's who had fallen off would get major resurgences as the newer artists tried to carve out their own lane (but I'm not even sure where thats going). I feel like we are getting relatively high on the carrying capacity curve of sounds that have been introduced in hip hop without being a different genre entirely.
But yes mainstream hip hop and even the rising stars are becoming very derivative in general. The only "new" things are usually music unrelated and more about their personalities/connections.
I don’t know but bring good drums back to hip hop in the mainstream again. There’s no reason why Way2Sexy should be 808s and hi hats with no kick. Also rage beats should die. Most these trap beats that don’t have kicks need to die out, it’s regressive and lazy. Add a kick, please for the love of music add a kick
The reason I brought him up was that he's not really anything special but it's to the point where people are just kind of rehashing and recycling trends now
You're right like he's probably the best part of the music but the beat also does carry him
Would rather see rap get better sub categories so that people wouldn't compare apples to oranges and it would be easier to find music you liked!
now I genuinely think he’s special but to each their own. In terms of rehashing, he’s been making this kinda music for a couple months now, not necessarily recycling the trend but happening to come up at a similar time.
in terms of better sub categories, there are so many as it is. Lowkey, rap Rn is very fragmented and u recognize that but I personally don’t mind it. for example, if u like west coast stuff, there is drakeo, remble, mozzy, ohgeesy etc. if u want “dusty” s***, there is boldy James, wiki, Mach hommy, tha god fahim etc. if u want michigan rap, there is babytron, Rio da yung og, babyface ray, est gee etc.
try and check out Tarhatazed too, might be their best track
Forsure,I’m f***ing with the fact that it seems like this band actually understand what makes good rock music lol

I’d unironically would love to see a yeat song with no beat that s*** sounds hard ngl lmaoo

you hit the nail on the head. i think the lack of punchy drums in the mix is definitely showing, actual acoustic drums would help breathe life into a lot of this other stuff

what makes a good rock song/album?

100%. it’s soulful stuff they’re making, feels like it goes beyond music almost
what makes a good rock song/album?
Good guitarists, good song structure,good/non-generic songwriting and of course,a competent drummer

I’d ask u to put me on because I don’t know as much about rock compared to rap but this is a rap thread

This album really just popped in my head when you asked that lol
Gotta revisit this
By 2031 it’ll be late 00s nostalgia (samples/aesthetics etc). Mostly fashion based on the hiphop side tho cause black music usually looks forward so expect the blatant nostalgia to come from white artists. Niggas in hiphop will force skinny jeans tho believe that.
There’ll be a new top guy A/top guy B with one being a street champion and the other being more poppy but still can rap. Lil Baby will have been the biggest rapper of the 2020s.
Everybody in the south will have sounded like Durk, Lil Baby and YoungBoy since around 2025 at this point. The lane for lyrical miracle female rappers in the mainstream will start to open up. The West Coast will have returned to glory in the mainstream at this point.
Throughout the late 2020s there’s an over abundance of synth leads in beats and that bleeds into the early 2030s
And rap gets even younger
Playboi Carti at the top
Very very large gap
Rest
Very very very very very large gap
Kendrick
Planet sized gap
Baby keem
What’s with this forum and d***sucking Carti? U gotta be trolling
I’d assume people emulating Drake, Weeknd early 2010s stuff with moody R&B production will come around out of nostalgia

Wavves-King Of The Beach, this was an album I use to listen to all the time when I was going through a punk rock phase. It’s a cool lil album last time I remember
