I’m finna go to the studio I need a good engineer that deals with fixing singing vocals? How do I search one locally? How did Drake run into 40? Of Weeknd into his engineers?

Networking, but like the internet is always cool
by fix there are two things you could be talking about, the vocal performance itself and then the vocal chain of effects you use
melodyne is the best plugin for fixing vocal notes imo. its like autotune but you can manually edit every single note. it ends up sounding like you didnt edit it if ya do it right
and for the actual vocal effects (reverb etc) you can use the plugins that kenny beats uses: reddit.com/r/Drumkits/comments/fmrjmx/kennybeats_2020_ableton_vocal_tracking_template
but everybody’s vocal style gonna be different so be sure to try a few things

the internet is your friend. drake met 40 through oliver bc they knew each other in high school. but not everyone is so lucky. reach out to people who are good. look for local artists you enjoy / have good engineering and try to find who works with them

u absolutely can. it'll obviously be difficult at first, if you tryna just walk into the studio and sound like a top tier artist immediately then obviously it's best to find an engineer in your area. it's gonna depend on how big of a city you're in and how lucky you are
but it's best not to treat audio engineering like some voodoo black magic s*** that you can never understand as an artist. taking the extra step to, at minimum, figure out WHAT is making you sound good is gonna be crucial for you as an artist
I'm giving you advice as someone who uses a trusted engineer, I was lucky to be in NYC already and just happen to meet someone thru a friend of a friend who is as great of an engineer as I could've possibly asked for. now that I understand what it is that he does, I'm able to value it and also figure out how I can make my own s*** sound good. it's not rocket science, although it might feel like it at first
just using that kenny beats template I posted has made my home recordings sound professional and it took under $500 + about an hour to set up. and you can prob crack most of those plugins too if you tried hard enough

Facts, been recording forever
I got the Kenny template and that s*** made a very noticeable difference
and lemme add that becoming a good audio engineer is also an incredibly valuable asset in the studio. if you get good at this s*** yourself then you can make back all the money you spent on equipment and plugins by mixing and engineering for others. it's a skill that will give back infinitesimally as you try to get into the music industry
not to mention if you're tryna break into the industry, you wanna be as valuable as possible in the studio—be able to sing, to write, to produce, and to engineer. the more of that the merrier, the more people you can meet and work with

yup, and while I'm sure there are better options out there for everybody's voice and genre or whatever, it's a great starting point that you can then f*** around and tweak as necessary
Kenny works with a pretty varied group of artists so his template has proven to be cool for quite a few different types of voices and deliveries

Listen to him OP
Game is changing a lot of these young niggas know how to record and produce all they own music too
Folks like Ali and Tumay got a bunch of info out there
Word to Hit Boy “if I had that when I was young I’d be a billionaire” (anybody that watches production/engineering vids should catch that reference)
learn to do that s*** yourself
goes a long way fr
this is GREAT advice. I know someone who did this and it’s insane how many obstacles got overcome. With having to pay for studio engineers, beats, videos, aesthetic, studio time etc... it adds up man

word, and I never wanna knock the value of having a trusted engineer there while you're recording to be like "yo try doing it this way" or "maybe that word doesn't sound as cool as you think rn" etc lol but that takes a lot of getting to know and trust a collaborator, and that prob won't be the case when you walk into the studio for the first time with anyone
also you never wanna just leave s*** in the hands of a dude and have no idea what he's doing with it. knowing what makes your voice sound good will go such a long way

learning to do it yourself definitely pays off in the long run but when you're starting up it's really helpful to work with professionals. you get a reference and a base on how you can sound etc. also you might pick up some important things along the way.
first studio I ever went to... I scheduled a tour, looked over everything and booked a session. I f***ed with the engineer there (over 13 years of experience in the industry). I started doing my own vocals...I still can't match the quality but I'm getting there.

this is exactly the case. use your studio experience as a reference and keep improving on your craft.
