And I’m saying that I don’t think so. Because you don’t know these people or reasons behind what they say and do anyway. So even if you think you know or it’s heavily implied, still better to not care because it’s impossible to stay consistent and treat every artist the same way

    …???

i don’t have to know DaBaby personally to know that when DaBaby said these lyrics on Jail:

Man, tell them haters open up the jail (Open up the jail)
And you can tell my baby mamas get the bail money (Bail me)
I said one thing they ain't like, threw me out like they ain't care for me

I know these people gon' try to tell me how to talk

those lyrics were clearly about getting canceled for being homophobic on stage

i don’t have to know R. Kelly personally to know that “Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number” was about his relationship with Aaliyah

it’s one thing when an artist is a s***ty person but their lyrics don’t necessarily reflect that, but it’s completely different when the lyrics are directly about the s***ty things they’ve done

for example, it’s easy to separate Chris Brown from his music because he doesn’t sing about beating/stalking his exes, but R. Kelly’s discography is full of “love” songs that are clearly about teenagers

i don’t think Playboi Carti raps about shooting a gun at his ex gf in his music, so it’s easy to overlook that, but many of Kanye’s recent lyrics are about how he’s still successful after getting allegedly canceled, so it’s difficult to overlook that when trying to enjoy the music for just how it sounds

There also a difference with Kanye in private life vs public life

Like Carti hitting his gf is obviously terrible, but it happened privately and doesn’t really have anything to do with us. So it’s reasonable if you wanna just say “who cares none of my business”. Kanye very publicly promoting Nazi ideology for months is a whole different story

I think the Diddy situation showed that there's many artists who have great PR but skeletons in their closets.

As such, I don't get fully invested into any artists as people.

I f*** with R Kelly's music and will always vouch for his 93-03 prime. But, at the same time, I think he's a despicable human being who belongs behind bars.

I think there's a strong possibility that MJ did what he was accused of but I still f*** with his music.

Marvin Gaye had allegations against him that accused him of domestic violence and pedophilia but I still smile when I hear "What's Going On" on the radio.

I don't treat any of these artists, whether I enjoy their music or not, as idols and that's how I separate their art.

    MJ is innocent

  • It's just weird to me how y'all pick and choose. Did Cardi B not literally d*** and rob men and then star in a movie about glorifying strippers that did that? But apparently that's "empowering". Does Future not treat women like plastic holes to dispose of after he's done with them? Did Ice Cube not make the song Black Korea but Anthony Fantano nerd ass who just acted so outraged about Vultures considers him a legend?

Biggie has a ton of questionable and crazy lines on Ready to Die, an album most of the nerds outraged about the music from R Kelly, Carti, Ye, etc. hail as a masterpiece. Apparently they can separate the art from the artist when they hear lines like Then I'm dippin' up the block and I'm robbin' b****es, too/Up the herringbones and bamboos/I wouldn't give a f*** if you're pregnant/Give me the baby rings and the #1 Mom pendant". DMX was evading taxes, failed to support his children, dealt d****, robbed people, hurt animals, jacked cars, etc. and bragged about doing all that s*** in his music but yall call him a legend.

Either stay consistent and stop acting outraged or quit listening to music period cuz there's a whole other discussion to be had about y'all paying companies like Spotify and Apple money to stream music and supporting corrupt corps.
