Ye writes, he just prefers to crowdsource ideas.

"I don't need writers, I might bounce ideas, but only I could come up with some s*** like this"

And I'm saying of all that as someone who used to actively dislike Ye.

I didn't deflect, I've been quoting Jay Z lyrics this entire thread and a***yzing his albums this entire thread, so I thought it was a bit daft to suggest I dont listen to him.

Like I said, I've consistently listened to rap as my primary genre for almost 25 years... one thing youre not going to do is imply that I don't know my hip-hop

Yeah we've all heard his bs justifications this isn't news to anyone.

Didn't read the whole thread, maybe just answer the question when asked? Also I've met loads of people that argue things they know nothing about with quick google or AI searches so that doesn't really say much.

When you say things like Ye or the other people in your list are better writers then Jay then I most certainly will. 25 years doesn't mean you can't have bad or uniformed or ignorant takes. Political pundits say dumb things all the time.

EVERY rapper has crowdsourced lyrics. Some, like Ye and Drake, are just more egregious than others.

Just saw that even Nas took a couple of lines from Big Pun yesterday.

Thread is 20 pages long, I dont have the patience to be answering s*** I've already addressed.

I think youre confusing songwriting with quality rapping, BTW

The more egregious is the point here, this is why they can't be considered better writers. Admitting it's worse and still calling him a better writer is wild!

You're the one that brought up making beats as songwriting so I don't wanna hear confusion arguments from you.

All Of The Lights is one of the greatest songs of all time.

Ye wrote it, regardless of how much of the lyrics he actually penned.

He had the idea and the vision, he put the pieces together. He executed that s*** to how he conceptualized it in his mind.

I keep saying you're mistaking songwriting for lyrical ability when it encompasses so many other things

Most of songwriting consists of writing the lyrics, you're delusional brother lmao.

You think making beats is a part of songwriting and keep saying i'm the one mistaking songwriting for other things lol, can't make this up.

No, you're REDUCING songwriting to just writing lyrics when it includes other things.

Songwriting is creating a concept, writing/getting someone to write the hook, writing the lyrics, performing the lyrics, making the beat/tweaking the arrangements to suit the song.

There's a reason why people make a distinction between producers and people who just make beats. There's a reason some producers get songwriting credits and some don't.

I'm the same person who told you, you were cherry picking for only focusing on beats and hooks, obviously I know it includes more things than just lyrics lol. I've not once reduced it to just writing lyrics in this convo.

You're just pretending I don't understand to deflect from you being wrong.

LOOL yes and this has nothing to do with them literally making the beat, it's about working on the melodies and harmonies used in the song. You're really proving how little you understand about this topic. So much for 25 years lmao!

How ironic can you read? You said i'm reducing it to just writing lyrics and I said that I'm not, i've been happy to talk about all the different aspects the whole time, you're just making up this idea that I don't understand because you know you're wrong.

And of course you don't acknowledge your mistake of thinking making beats is a part of song writing

Yes which is why it is strange why you think "making beats" is a part of songwriting, these producers who get songwriting credits are NOT getting credit for simply making the beat

Can't believe you're here pretending this isn't what you argued earlier, maybe just admit you were wrong and we can call it a day?

  • Aisosa

What concept songs does Jay Z hafe that can hold up to Stan, Rabbit Run, Bad Guy, Lose Yourself and Kim?

  • SyIIabIes

That post was posted for the same reasons, you’re ignoring all the discussion

I'm not ignoring any discussion, y'all cherry-picked a random line from a Jay song that wasn't even meant to be that lyrical, whereas Rap God is literally Eminem trying to show how impressive of a lyricist he is

    Actually, that's not accurate

Production IS songwriting, producers get credited as songwriters on albums

Songwriting is not just vocals and lyricism, it's also the instrumentation

It is accurate because he said "making beats" not production do not conflate the two.

I never argued against this, did you even read the conversation?

I come from the Graduation to TML etc era and BP3 is a shining spot of that era. I get why people don’t like it as a Jay album but I love that era of Jay where he was kinda taking after the Kanye influence. My bad

Track by track lets go down and see what doesnt hold up. Maybe Reminder (Augh!) lol but i bet most of those you cant really say are bad or wack songs

Jay makes dope safe “mainstream rapper” music when he falls back from the “NIGGA I SOLD CRACK” raps lol

We can not be calling BP3 a classic. Its a personal classic for you, but thats it

    The Blueprint
    The Black Album

    Are indisputable

    4:44 is arguable

Vol 2 is not an indisputable classic. Its not even a classic. 4:44 is a personal classic for you and for everyone else is a good or great album

@Aisosa Can you share some Eminem songs outside of his prime that you feel are still top quality songwriting

  • Em could never make a Song Cry

    Jay could never make Difficult

Vol 2 was a classic in the 90s. Doesn't get mentioned much now.
