idk i feel like it wouldve always been this way tho. i do give doja credit for her presence on songs and her pop sensibilities, shes a good hand for making sounds that will instantly sink right into this whole tiktok gens psyche
Tinashe doesn’t have the white girl appeal for some reason and also doesn’t rap (to my knowledge)
Also the time period when she came out
Tinashe has no style of her own.
Her mixtapes are just Generic dark moody r&b singer #826383647

Not true lmao

She can rap, really good too. Her delivery is crisp af. She just don’t use it much.

Yes, delivery crispy clean
I think Tinashe went from developing her grassroots fanbase to 2on way too quickly and her team proceeded to chase the 2on success and she lost her way in the process and now no one cares about her music.

No but she clearly has no style of her own and her most appealing music is the one she rejects. She could have a solid fan base making wannabe Janet/Sade music if she wasn't so desperate for a hit.
I wonder what makes you think it’s bad
Believability. She doesn't sound convincing at all. She sounds like she's 'trying' to rap IMO

In abandoning her pursuit of solidifying her grassroots fanbase, she became a mess musically. There's no hook to her, there's no nothing, just a generic pretty light skin who does music and now since she's indie, her career as a popular act is probably over.
(You're never completely out of it, but yeah)

This is false as well, her style is the alt-r&b that started appearing in the beginning of the ‘10s. More like Twigs but with more commercial appeal.
The main problem with Tinashe is the success of 2 On tricked the label to think she would be a pop star. When in actuality she’s more Frank Ocean then Chris Brown. That’s what lead to her music being all over the place.
You also have to recognize the timing when she came out. Pop music in general was just beginning to phase out, but it wasn’t completely dead like how it is now. So they were thinking it was still a chance she could blow from that.

she's nothing like Frank Ocean and "Alt R&B" isn't real. She was making Janet/Sade inspired music and that's what worked for her. She was doing it better than Jhene Aiko.
Aquarius had the same vibes and it was a good start for her. A mixture of her mixtape sound and crossover singles.
Songs For You was a good project for her and it was another opportunity for her to move forward & build a fan base but shortly after that she released gimmicky pop singles.

When I mentioned Frank Ocean I was referring to an introverted personality, had nothing to do with music. She looks like a pop star but her personality doesn’t reflect that.
That’s true with Janet/Sade inspired music and that was her identity. I also agree, Jhene had the TDE connection which was key for her.
Those singles after Songs For You weren’t the best choices I agree. An Iggy collab isn’t the best idea, however have to remember she’s independent...like really independent because she doesn’t have many connections in the industry.
