she shuts up, keeps her head down, and keeps working. consistently excellent

Exactly if she isn't involved, she shuts up. Puts in the work

She was back in the day when DC changed from a group of 4 to 3, the media blamed her and her dad

she was actually supposed to go solo back in 2000/01 but the fans had turned against her cuz they thought it was her abd her dad's fault for the 2 La's leaving.

They waited until 03 after things cooled down, which was smart. Idk if she would have made it then cuz not only had a good half of DC fans hated her, but it was such a hard year to compete too.

I feel like beyonce still wouldve but to compete with aaliyah, her brand wouldn't have worked back then

She got hate when she dropped the video for Formation with the cop car and then her Super Bowl performance when everyone was dressed in all black

I think she would have too, but it is impossible to predict something that didn't happen 🤷🏿‍♂️

Plus when she actually debuted she had the support fanbase from DC

only reason people might dislike her is misdirected hate for her rabid stans, that and conservatives still upset about the superbowl performance

Conservative hate is nothing Compared to the hate others artist get.

Beyoncé gets no hate at all.

There is this weird new hate she be getting from sheabutterwoketwitter (no names) but the conservative & SBTwitter hate is so small

but they were still given to artists who were dominating in other aspects as well

And I myself never actually said anything negative about her from my opinion

I just think that is why people criticize her. The brand doesn't always fit. That abd her image is a bit too closed. People are shocked to hear what she sounded like as a kid, or any type of personal info about her. Her image is so curated it turns people off.

I remember when Homecoming came out one of my friends told me she thought the documentary parts about it felt a bit too curated. Like it wasn't the real deal or they only chose certain parts that atill fit herbinage if perfection. That's just how her team works and where a lot of the criticism comes from.

Her performances are gonna be more remembered than her music. Or at least her being a great performer will.

"but they were still given to artists who were dominating in other aspects as well" - I was simply contextualizing where the titles "greatest entertainer" received its roots from in HER case. It's not universal and simply depends on what you're known for by the GP. For example: MJ's "King of Pop" superlative was linked to the fact that he DECIMATED everyone in every single metric possible and was undisbutedly soveriegn over all others in pop culture. Whitney's title as the "the voice" came from Oprah..directly related to quality and magical superhuman nature of her instrument (voice).

Before Beyonce was recognized as this world class performer, she was called 'the total package' and it was inspired on how flawlessly and how skilled she danced, moved and sang live so effortlessly on stage in a time where artists could only do one really well. When it comes to her, the glory she received was never anchored by commercial standards like Rihanna being THE hit-maker of her generation or Adele being a complete anamoly when it comes to record sales. She always was pretty consistent and impressive commercially for an artist making urban-contemporary (RnB) music for the most part, but her bread and butter and larger than life aura was centered around the innate qualities that she brought to the table with her artistry.

Most of the criticism is from those outside her demographic who aren't familiar/know with her outside from a few hot 100 chart toppers and wants to know 'exactly' what the hooplah is about. They generally don't listen to her music, don't follow her, have never seen her perform-entertain. It's mostly from knee-jerk reactions of OTHER ppl's feeling and love for her. You see it a lot here and on places like Reddit. Most of these same change their tune when they watch her coachella performance or watch something like BiK or see her vocally demolish some s*** and then they're like... ohh I get it now.

"I remember when Homecoming came out one of my friends told me she thought the documentary parts about it felt a bit too curated. Like it wasn't the real deal or they only chose certain parts that atill fit herbinage if perfection." -Are you sure she watched the documentary. It was the exact opposite of 'perfection'. She actually touched on many points that ppl don't normally see, like the struggle to get back to her self and level before having twins.. her medical conditions getting in the way of her recovery. The rich culture of HBCU/southern black culture and the harsh realities that those trying to make it in a world that doesn't accept/see them. I'm lost on the 'herbinage of perfrection'. as well as 'the real deal'. Can you add some context.

Beyonce's contribution to pop culture in general will be remembered. She definitely made her mark and the fact that 25 years later, where all her peers are nearly forgotten she's still carrying the torch for 'black excellence'. As far as her music is concerned, it may not be as popular anymore and her prime demo has kinda aged out the pop culture phase, she still has moments/classic hits that define a certain time that reflects pop culture well..

I'm was confused how anyone that watched that documentary on the 'road to coachella' could come to that assertion when the BTS parts where she provided context actually highlighted the gruelling work and put into doing what she does and her insecurities with her weight/not being able to live up to the standards that she set for herself. Actually those that watched it saw for the first time a humanized version of her and her team as she prepared to deliver her comeback performance. The curation of it didn't seem too different than other docs.. during that period i.e- Gaga's/Taylor's..

oh no I gotchu, breh.. I was sort of just wondering out loud how someone could actually watch that and come back with those criticisms. I was lowkey going back in my head trying to think if I missed something that showcases this 'herbinage of perfection' ..lol
