Imo someone’s music taste and how they consume music says a lot about them

Im not sure if i would fully write someone off if our music taste didn’t fully align but it does suck when I feel like I can’t share an aspect of my likes with my partner knowing they won’t like it

What do y’all think? Is music taste is an important part of general compatibility

I couldnt go out with someone who i think has bad/offensive taste, eg a taylor swift fan. I just couldnt trust their judgment or realness as a human being.

Other than that its good to be challenged and exposed to new things

I used to think it mattered, but the partners that I had a lot of musical compatibility with didnt really work out, and the ones I didnt have music compatibilty had great runs. Open mindedness matters more than the music imo

Yeah theres tonnes of long term relationships with partners with nothing in common. It just works for some people

It can! I should clarify I usually date people with lots of things in common, just not music in particular! Like Im a painter and if someone didnt get paintings i dont think I could make it work lol its too big a part of my life. Music is a passion for me but not a dealbreaker u know. If i was a musician im sure it would be different

My girl and I have extremely different tastes in music and honestly it is tough for me sometimes. Like we’re on completely different ends of the spectrum with minimal crossover

Musical crossover would be nice but not that important. I like listening to different music, as long as it's not ukelele happy s***.

If thats really their musical epitome, their favourite artist, if they would choose that over most other music, then yes there is something deeply wrong with that for me.

I simply respect myself too much

Actually maybe negative, I don’t think I want to date a girl who listens to Boldy James

I thought this until I had to sit in a car with shorty playing just awful country music on a CD on the way to the beach

Longest ride of my life I couldn’t find any enjoyment in that particular artist

True. The girl I had the most in common with musically didn’t necessarily result in a better relationship. I’d say having some common ground musically Is best while also respecting that y’all have your own niches you prefer

This would suck for me like on a road trip or something. I couldn’t listen to some generic Khaled s*** while shorty is taking it 100% serious

  • I'm at concerts or dance parties 2x a week so if they don't like they better learn

The kind of music someone genuinely likes/ loves outside of a passive interest in that song says a lot about them to me

I wish Khaled was the worst of it that would at least be tolerable lol

  • The ones I share similar taste with never work out. Not sure why. I’ve learned that that s*** doesn’t really matter and if anything it makes things a bit more interested when they have completely different taste

  • The only compatibility test that matters

  • Mar 29

could care less if they like the same music i like its a plus nothing more than that.

  • very important, its much more enjoyable when your tastes align not just music

  • Yeah someone’s music taste can be a big turn off
