I don’t get why people use the amount of time between albums as a barometer of success. Every album Kendrick has dropped has been a certified classic. Honestly everything he’s dropped since O.D has. When you have a run like that you’re in the conversation no matter what. Kendrick could never drop another album again and he’s still in the GOAT conversation period.
You dont get it bro the quality of music doesnt matter Kendrick must drop consistent GARBAGE like Eminem in order to be a GOAT
Having a good discography isnt enough you need to bloat it with trash
Long album cycles and being lazy aren’t the same thing.
That being said you aren’t the GOAT if you drop albums then hibernate IMO, but that’s just from me growing up as a Wayne stan and watching him out rap niggas every other week.
(In on another Kendrick critique thread tho, and thread critiquing him is bound to pop off)
This is ALL I'm saying. Is Kendrick undoubtedly one of the greatest rappers of his generation? YES. He forever holds that spot just off his catalog up until this point.
HOWEVER, you can't make those claims when you have peers out here outdoing you work ethic-wise, commercially and who are dropping good enough music that's aging well and keeping the game alive. It simply doesn't work lol.
I'd understand if Kendrick was in his mid 40s or something, but he's not. His last album dropped when he was 29. He's 34 right now. I mean, come on.
Anyway OP will look stupid when Kendrick drops
I won't because I love his music lmao. I'll be listening like everybody else.
Okay man these Kendrick hate threads a lil played out
I can only bring this energy to so many threads
God I hope this album is good so y’all can shut the f*** up already
I'm actually expecting something really left field. He's definitely the last of a dying breed

Okay and what does activity have to do with making good music
Id rather take one amazing album every few years over back to back trash anually
youre just being contrarian for the sake of it
That's how you feel and that's okay. I never said he couldn't take a break. All I said was he can't be the GOAT of his generation when he's been missing for 5 years and others have been putting in the work and adding to their catalogs and legacies. That's all.

For sure, every album he puts out is a shift from the previous.
Kendrick is one of those lucky artists that can do no wrong to some people. He is the critics little darling. Remember when Drake took a small break and the whole industry was talking about him falling off?
Kendrick has to come with a certified classic due to the long break.
Drake disappeared for less than 6 months and people IMMEDIATELY started acting like his career was over lmao. All that showed was that people were mad he's been running the game for the last 13 years and want him to be done and all the success he saw upon his return showed was that those same people missed him and can't do with him going away even for a little bit.
That's how you feel and that's okay. I never said he couldn't take a break. All I said was he can't be the GOAT of his generation when he's been missing for 5 years and others have been putting in the work and adding to their catalogs and legacies. That's all.
But you used Eminem as an example who has been adding complete garbage to his discog
Youd rather consistent garbage over well crafted good music?

I guess what folks are saying is no one has dropped projects as impactful as Kenny. Not a lot of artist have made social/poltical records that charted.
Friendly reminder that Jay dropped 13 albums in 9 years:
Reasonable Doubt (1996)
Vol 1 (1997)
Vol 2 (1998)
Vol 3 (1999)
The Dynasty (2000)
The Blueprint (2001)
Jay-Z: Unplugged (2001)
The Best of Both Worlds (2002)
The Blueprint 2 (2002)
The Blueprint 2.1 (2003)
The Black Album (2003)
Unfinished Business (2004)
Collision Course (2004)
In the past 9 years Kendrick has dropped 5 albums:
Good Kid MAAD City (2012)
To Pimp a Butterfly (2015)
Untitled Unmastered (2016)
DAMN. (2017)
Black Panther Soundtrack (2018)
This fast food mentality is ruining rap
exactly why it fell off the charts and why pop music is resurging
Great work ethic is when u put time and effort into crafting something masterful not when u put out all the mid bullshit you record
I don't excpect a loser like op to understand this tho

Jay my favorite rapper of all time but he never made GKMC or TPAB

Drake and Kendrick aren’t even on the same level artistry wise so you can’t compare them
Yeah, 5 years is way too long IMO
Kinda everything after 3 years is too long if we‘re being honest unless they announced that they‘re doing a break for a longer time.
