Was hoping for some songs but alright, I can check them out.

But they're still just a bunch of no names in the industry right now.

Bruh none of those people will ever be drake, kendrick, Cole level. That’s not what you’re looking for

People just in here on their “well ackshually ☝🏻🤓” s***

We’re not talking about random ass rappers that put out quality music but never attain mass appeal. Those are dime a dozen

As far as faces of the genre and leaders of rap it’s been drake and kendrick for over a decade and then future, Cole, Travis fighting for 3rd.

None of the artists after them that were crowned as the next big thing have stuck around or stayed hot long enough to make it to the top. S*** is sad

y’all really never gonna let him taking 5 years over a pandemic and his family go s***s crazy man

Ironically, this type of entitled attitude is why some of the best rappers start to lean away from rap. Even Phonte's last project veered from rap despite him being a talented lyricist.

Kendrick has straight up disassociated himself from the rap community on social media despite rap still being his passion and 3 Stacks just said "Fuck it" and gave people a flute album.

The modern rap community has become very entitled and impatient. Niggas won't even let rappers take a break anymore even if there's good reasons for it(COVID, family, remaking the album, etc).

Kenny already said that he was gonna drop a rock inspired album in either 2020 or 2021 but COVID f***ed him up.

Unfortunately, that’s just the nature of the competition for the top spot. S*** is fickle.

This is why other genres are slowly taking market share from rap. If all your top artists are your 10+ year veterans, there's a problem.

To be fair, this is happening with Pop too.

Olivia Rodrigo's supposed to be the biggest pop star yet her last album didn't even do better fw sales than Renaissance.

Eh, there have been other that have been crowned the next big thing that have stayed around and super successful

    Travis

    Thug

    Tyler

Uzi/Carti/21/ Kodak (we can get back to this group later lol)

I think what you’re looking for in particular the DNA that those big 3 have that just isn’t realistic

    Because it’s not true lol

I mean I guess but the obsession with a rapper aging is a relatively new concept, when 50 & Kanye blew up they were like 28 and nobody was thinking about it.

When LL beefed with Canibus and had a career resurgence after it he was in his early 30s and had a run well into the 2000s

Everybody scared of hitting their late 20s just kinda funny lmaooo

I think it’s a combination of the some of the most talented artists dying recently, combined with the death of monoculture. There is an incredible amount of great music in the underground, but because everything is tailored to people’s specific interests, the attention is more evenly divided. The big 3 in a way are a relic of a different era.

Yes you’re right. MichaelAngelo made some of his most famous works in his 80s. Lots of poets didn’t become popular until their late years. In my opinion rap is no different. You need life experience to create art. The young people being so successful are exceptions, not the norm. A lot of it too is that hip hop is such a young art form, people havent had the chance to see what older people will do with it yet.

    Agreed.

All the people that we see as legends from the 90s - 2000s eras..

Guys like DMX, Ye, 50, Jay, Em, popped off around 27-29 and the point of their careers that’s usually seen as their prime runs were in their 30s.

When I was bumping Graduation as a kid I wasn’t thinking “damn this niggas in his 30s” cuz the music was hard lol

Our reference for older guys in rap before all this was like Kane and Rakim which isn’t fair cuz their prime happened before rap became what it was later on

honestly watching the domino effect from like JAY-Z to Lil Wayne in how he adopted his no writing approach + Wayne being largely free associative with his writing, experimenting with autotune etc. and then dudes like Uzi and Carti coming along biting off of like Thug, Wayne, Keef and Future (Thug is a direct descendant from Wayne, Future a little bit) and that culminating into these new gen niggas being all aesthetic, no writing and getting carried by prod is some real wild s*** lol (and im sure im missing some artists within this span that played a role in influencing the current zeitgeist)

like the quality of the artists seriously gradually declined the further it got removed from the progenitors for the most part but like the Carti/Thug clones are just laughably bad or just bland, it’s such a steep drop off

honestly the only metaphor for this phenomenon i can find is incest

you got clones cloning each other now

What are they supposed to do different

The game just doesn’t give a f*** about that type of music/artist being a top act anymore that’s not their fault

i didn't say they should though. But they easily could, but that's also not their goals which isn't inherently bad. That's what they wanted/didn't want.

All the members of Ghetto sage don't really be dropping music like that. Not to say they gotta spam music out but each of them took a 4 year break after their 2nd album which slowed down the momentum they were building
