i didn't say they should though. But they easily could, but that's also not their goals which isn't inherently bad. That's what they wanted/didn't want.

I’m not saying you said that. I’m just saying it’s a testament to how different things are you feel me

big 3 gets the most unfair treatment out of any legend group

They all have multiple diamond records and classic albums at this point but everyone still treats them like rookies who need to prove their talents

People still ask them to prove themselves after 14 years of dominance. Its literally mental illness at this point

Eh, there have been other that have been crowned the next big thing that have stayed around and super successful

    Travis

    Thug

    Tyler

Uzi/Carti/21/ Kodak (we can get back to this group later lol)

I think what you’re looking for in particular the DNA that those big 3 have that just isn’t realistic

Who are they passing the torch to tho?

Like faces of the genre type s***. Thug was always niche, so is Tyler.

There’s Travis but how long has he been around at this point? I wouldn’t really call him new school either

Almost all of the post 2015 guys fall flat in terms of star power

    The Krab Season

And this is why it's not an "old head" view that the state of rap is dead like posters say here. We don't even have a unanimous top 3 that are doing anything great with the genre. It's lackluster

It’s gonna hurt me to tell u this but the Big 3 is a made up concept

The reason theres no big 3/superstar is cause YALL got lazy.

    /thread

It’s so hard for me to imagine a new creative hit single hitting the airwaves and the mainstream accepting it. It’s like so many people these days are quick to point out that they don’t like something, and we def see it on this site daily.

What if the next big three is a creative showcase ass nigga but he will never make it cus we only clown those guys

*What if he’s an angel standing here from heaven and he’s….making sure that you’re doing your best, to take the time….to help one another….. brother are you gonna pass that test?”

  • Nov 24, 2023

I think another issue is how “clique’d” up rap is. There’s a few different sides to it now so it’s like each side has there own Big 3…

Kendrick hasn’t dropped in quality enough to be out of his spot like many complain & it shows from the tour success from an album deemed as his weakest link

Has nothing to do with him dropping in quality imo. He has simply been too inactive compared to Drake and Cole to still be considered one of the top 3 dudes. He can certainly still be considered part of that core 3 for the 2010s but it stops once we get into this decade. Since 2017, Kendrick has only dropped 1 album (that came and went and had zero impact compared to his previous releases). Cole has dropped 2 albums since then, along with multiple projects with his label mates and has done a handful of impactful features and has another album on the way. As for Drake, nothing needs to be said. He's been the most dominant figure in rap music for the better part of the last 2 decades.

Drake and Cole have made active contributions to the genre this decade. Kendrick hasn't.

    “Thats not they goals”

Like they decide the landscape my nigga (in Saba’s case) that’s just how the f*** s*** goes when you’re independent (Saba aint go to a major label)

We REALLY REALLY don’t appreciate or even respect the success that independent artists today are making lmao

To be fair, this is happening with Pop too.

Olivia Rodrigo's supposed to be the biggest pop star yet her last album didn't even do better fw sales than Renaissance.

This is a rather disingenuous take considering her debut album dropped just 2 years ago. Her sophomore album had a bigger first week than her debut album and scored multiple top 10 hits, including a #1 hit. That's not a flop or underperformance at all, especially considering how no other woman in pop music outside of Taylor Swift is doing those numbers.

Olivia Rodrigo is 20 years old with 2 #1 albums, 3 #1 singles and 6 top 10 hits to her name and she's going on a 77-date arena world tour in support of her latest album. She's doing more than fine.

Somebody said months ago the rise of anti-intellectualism been biting this country in the ass. Yall niggas (if it don’t apply let it fly) damn near take pride in not even being in the loop about certain people.

It’s one of the big reasons discussion in this sxn suffers a lot. Niggas say “who” instead of trying to even engage in a discussion around a new artist for…whatever reason.

“Ppl had to be fed by a machine” like…the machine wasn’t just blogs ran by people in they 30s-40s or dedicated A&Rs in that same age bracket that just cared lol. (And now we’re turning into those 30/40 y/os but just lack that same passion and more importantly attention span)

Of course we romanticizing that process cause we was literally just teens during that era but (as someone with a pops that taught at high school for decades) I remember vividly the origins of “yo that Jimmy dude rapping lol wtf” and people not really taking bro seriously til that Replacement Girl joint.

big 3 is a concept that is on its way out and we dont need another big 3 after that. thats like if I was in the late 00s claiming that s*** is dead because theres no 50 cent and dre type of figures at the forefront and therefore need to bring gangsta rap back

im perfectly fine with a steady stream of good talent that is not centered on three figureheads that get assigned these arbitrary tasks of being responsible for the genre, the culture, america, or the entire human race just because theyre recognizable musicians. good s*** will show up in the genre regardless, Detroit is on top without having to crossover and again thats fine by me
