let me stop you right there to say i 1000% do not have this perception about vocalists and i am a musician/vocalist myself lol. i edited my post to take true musician out. there are plenty of vocalists/composers that i love... i saw caroline shaw/roomful of teeth a few years back and last night at Frank's set someone played a keyboard rendition of Kim Burrell's vocal from Godspeed and it was truly magical, she is a beast and the complexity and beauty of that was put on full display with that moog solo

that all being said Beyoncé is probably not composing most of any of her music, not with her voice or anything else, and is possibly doing her vocals to a reference track, plus she has had this claiming-to-write-her-own-music-but-not-actually problem since the beginning of her career, ironically. the favorite track that i keep mentioning, plastic off the sofa, was written by syd among others and there very well may be a full reference track of syd doing all the showstopping melismas on there. it sounds like a song syd brought in to the sessions. that's the point i was trying to make with my post. it doesn't matter whether Beyoncé only uses her voice or not, Michael Jackson has arranged songs by directing musicians with his voice. it's that all signs point to Beyoncé not doing this, at least not for many of her songs. i still love her voice and skill, im talking about giving credit where credit is due. that's all. if we were talking about say Liberace who could play a bunch of songs at a high level but didn't compose anything, but then he came out with an album of "original" songs, id keep the same energy, trust. i also admit that a lot of this is speculation when it comes to Beyoncé, that and hearing leaks/reference tracks already made for her/the controversy about her faking authorship earlier, so I could be wrong and she contributes significantly even when she's brought a song.

Tyler can't exactly play piano at a very high level (although he has gotten better, it doesn't seem like he practices that much) but neither could Ravel. they're both great composers either way. instrumental ability doesn't equate to compositional brilliance, although it does help

Can’t deny that Frank is a staple artist of the 2010s. Hard to describe the esteem he had from Channel Orange and then Blonde. But yes, he bowed out a while ago and I couldn’t blame a 16 year old for not even really knowing who he is.

I’m trying to express to you that the MERIT of a musician I give to a musician is not specifically measured by the prowess of your skill in the MEDIUM used to express the sonic experience instrumentalist/producer/vocalist on a ‘technical’ level, that’s just the medium! I don’t measure musical virtuosity that way. I’ve seen instrumentalists that play 6 instruments that have NO interpretive wit about themselves .. and I’ve met vocalists that went into the studio and vocally produced ( Which Beyonce is) some of the most craziest stems I’ve heard my life by ear alone .. If notated on sheet music, you’d think a genius composed it.

The ability to think and express in sound doesn’t stop and end where you think it does.. and you don’t automatically get scream brownie points from me because you play 10 instruments and can make productions from scatch

Beyonce/Frank and other vocal musicians not composing music in a traditional or orthodox way like a composer/instrumentalist etc does not detract from their musicality or virtuosity as ‘musicians’ .. their scope of expression is jus coming from a different medium ..from the tone of your other posts it seemed like you were doing just that hence you feeling the need to bring up Tyler as deserving more praise as a musician in contrast to a Frank/Beyonce

Their instrument of choice (voice) has just as much musicianship.. it’s just expressed through a medium

Beyonce literally uses her voice like an instrument ..she creates Melodies herself..
Building the harmonic structure from the ground up..

Again, if you notated this as sheet music and get into the actual theory of what’s going on in this clip there’s no denying that she’s a masterful musician!

Just listen to it.. this stuff is just as thrilling as the production work Tyler did on records like ego
