First off I’m not s***ting on all loops or sample makers. Lotta good musicians in the game making interesting compositions to sample and flip

The problem is the wave of kids that popped up in the late 2010s who solely make samples and type beats directed for a specific artist. Internet Money and specifically Nick Mira were the ones that kicked this s*** off big time

Videos like this grabbed the attention of a bunch of white teenagers who started treating this s*** like a video game

The idea of an artist going to a certain producer for a their sound died. This started the trend of “let me make 50 Pierre Borne type beats or samples and send them” which majorly stunted the genre from growing

It also flooded YouTube with other guys doing the exact same s*** for even more kids to copy

It’s been happening so long now we’re at a point where guys like this (People who are so disconnected from the roots of the genre) are running s***

People were destroying this kid for his opinion but it’s commonly shared among a lot of “hip hop” producers who have big placements

Go ahead and really look into some of the people who produced for any young artist that’s poppin rn. Even look into credits from popular producers to see who’s really making all their samples and loops

There’s even more to this but I ain’t trying to write a whole ass book

I defended type beats for a long time

People said “well how else is young producer supposed to get heard?”

But no one thought about what would happen if those guys actually made it into the game and started getting big placements

Nah i remember taz first started talking about that s*** an i personally hated it because it extracts all of the identity from being a producer

Bro was getting bread tho. Lowkey wish i hopped on his bandwagon

I'm fine with people using loops as long as they put their own spin on it. As long as there is some sort of creative methodology to it that makes a beat unique.

The guys you posted are all just chasing the same trash "moody" dark beats without any originality.

  • Dec 15, 2024

    yup

made beat production so cliche-y and a salesmen frat firm too

    hated that s*** so much

The problem is it’s hard to flip a lot of those loops into something unique

Theres YouTube videos for any type of loop that’s popular. Guys who just do formula after formula

“Heres exactly how you make dark piano loops”

“Here’s exactly how you make vintage soul loops” etc.

It was different when Frank Dukes started it. He was just making s*** he thought sounded cool. He wasn’t saying “Nardo wick likes dark piano loops so I’ll make 50 of those and send it over” like these kids do

I bought a drum kit from bro when I first started making beats in the early 2010s

He said “This will be the only drum kit you ever need” and as someone just starting out I had no idea

S*** was literally FL studio stock sounds. Had a vendetta ever since

A good and creative producer using loops is nice. Actually I think the loop game isn’t so bad. It’s just outsourcing. And also I think we have gotten crazy melodies from this this since loop makers are often solely focused on making melodies. So it’s like people focused on just one most destined craft.

Type beats are f***ed tho. That s*** is ass and commercialised the game too much

Yeah that's true. It is difficult you're right, but there are people that are capable of it. For example JPEGMAFIA is stellar at creating unique beats. I'm not even a big Peggy fan but you can't say that he doesn't have talent in terms of producing.

Nah they definitely still exist, I said right at the start there’s still a lot of great loop/sample makers doing cool s***. Like this:

The problem is how those videos I posted started a problem where kids just follow a formula. From sample makers to actual beat makers

Because he goes out of his way to sample weird s*** no one else would. He’s not looking through his email with hundreds of piano loops to make a beat

He goes into it with the thought of “let me make some weird s*** that I like”

Not “I gotta send some beats to nardo wick so let me pull up 500 piano loops that all sound the same”

I rock with loops though, I just chalk that up to collaboration and if it’s sumn hard s*** somebody sent thru, would be stupid not to use it. Especially if u have something dope to offer for it

Niggas be trying to charm and impress other producers like they wanna f*** em or sumn more than they wanna actually cook up dope beats

But what it really depends on is how you approach everything
