The only bad song on 4YEO is folding clothes The rest of it is great

See what I mean, yall overrate that s*** J Cole one of my favorite rappers but Immortal, Neighbors, Change and the title track are the only good songs on there

My nigga, you are defending Ville Mentality and She's Mine 1 and 2 Please reconsider this.

All his albums are great. He’s got one of the best catalogues in Hip Hop.

No album with Mr. Nice Watch on it is great.

No album with Mr. Nice Watch on it is great.

Even classic albums have bad songs on them. SS has a few misses but it’s a solid album.

We need a more talented rapper to tackle the subject matter of KOD. We lost Peep, Mac and Juice to d**** over the last few years. It's a serious topic that needs to be addressed but unfortunately, J Cole not skilled enough to do that topic justice

imo its not gonna happen in a more extrapolated context because of what goes into the hip hop process and cultivation of talent. i think unironically someone like Future would theoretically be a good example of someone who explores that subject (even though elsewhere he glorifies it), i.e. X**** Damage. However he said himself he doesn't really do d**** like he raps. The problem with really exploring and tackling that subject matter more skillfully is you need sentimental attachment to it. It's why it doesn't make sense for someone like Cole or Kendrick to do it; they have never really been d***gies or been in the scene like that. A lot of old post-punk and rock bands honestly probably historically the best of tackling the subject matter, but unfortunately they were more exploring a very specific timeframe and d*** (usually heroin), so it's not as extrapolatable to hip hop. Mac is probably the best example of someone I can think of off-hand who really like skilfully and in depth explored the subject from a means other than aesthetically, but it's hard beyond that, I'm not sure who else I can imagine doing it.

Kendrick would've done a great job with it I think. He actually executes concepts well and explores them beyond the surface level.

I want to live in the alternate reality where J Cole saw the DAMN tour, got inspired and approached Kendrick with that idea as the collab album they should do. Would've been crazy and they both knew Mac

2 with FHD & Born Sinner

    4YEO & Sideline are bad

    Rest is ok

Crazy you got all this mid but he still managed to pull out a classic

2014 FHD and The Off-Season are his good albums in my opinion. Born Sinner had potential to be really good if he would've included some of the songs from his "Truly Yours" series on it. (Miss America and New York Times for example)

He peaked on his mixtapes though. I wish Friday Night Lights was his debut album like he intended before things went left. I'm still looking forward to "The Fall Off" though, whenever it comes out.

His Truly Yours trilogy is his best work imo

All them together make a hypothetical amazing album

Why is the same beat taking two spaces on your 10 track album I thought Ville Mentality was going to be hard af or at least similar vibes as VilleMatic, but nah some "How long can I survive with this mentality " horrible ass crooning and bad rapping

I've been a fan since 2012 but that album is NOT it I expected him to talk about his brother being locked up based on the title, but it's just a concept that doesn't hold up under scrutiny. Like wtf is Deja Vu in the context of this album??

1 great album (FHD), 2 good albums (Off Season, KOD/BS depending on your preference)

The rest range from garbage to mediocre. BS and 4YEO both have some great songs on them, but they're also weighed down by some terrible songs

And Idk why tf some people on here insist on overrating 4YEO There's legit only like 4 good songs on there

List me the "terrible" songs on BS plz. Curious

As I was typing that post, I had the exact same thought. They not really on d****, so they can't really speak on it to the same effect as Mac did. But they could maybe approach it from like a voice of reason stance. Like "This is how it's f***ed up the people around us and our community. This album is our effort to help fix this issue". Cole's mother was an addict, Kendrick addresses his alcohol addiction on U, so they would have some things to say on about it

It would be hard to do without coming across as preachy, but that was the perfect moment for their collab imo (if they'll ever make one)

That s*** would have me heated because he dropped an album with some stinkers but Truly Yourz had some heaters on them And Cole lost for not signing Canei Finch to Dreamville, that production style suits him perfectly
