It’s not about keeping track of every single thing, it’s a pretty simple set of ground rules for the root causes.

Limit the amount of time on gaming, or social media.

Parents nowadays let their kids steam roll them with the “all my friends” have it nonsense.

  • Thought this was about d**** and s***. My parents are anti-drugs and smoking, didn't stop my brother and I from getting hooked on weed and cigarettes and experimenting with psychedelics. I feel like gaming/internet addiction is different somehow, parents have more control over how much time their kids spend with devices and thus more responsibility when it comes to things like that

The gaming industry needs to be confronted for how predatory their practices are though. I actually overheard this guy telling his friend about how his kid spent over 4000 on Fortnite because his bank account was linked to the game These corporations don't gaf and will try to take advantage of these kids

You got both parents working 9-5s these days and you want them to additionally figure out all plots and tricks companies use to exploit their children in products that are made for children?

  • That's a really tough case to prove though. Like you can point out certain incentives to keep people playing etc, but they're a business. That's like suing social media companies because their algorithms are designed to keep you scrolling That's the f***ing point, they're not going to intentionally design something people don't want to keep playing

I see where the parents coming from but that’s stupid as they should just parent better.

All this technology is extremely addictive tho. Don’t know how corporations would implement moderation

  • Dec 13, 2022

of course the games companies are partially to blame for creating a feedback loop thats designed to suck more and more time and money out of its players.

but at the same time if you’re really concerned as a parent then there’s nothing stopping you confiscating the console, but a lot of these parents raising demons who would probably deck you for that

    unless they portable playing outside
the parents are to be held accountable

it's not like you live in separate houses, you see your kid everyday playing that s*** for hours

but life is busy and parents have work to do so the answer is pretty complicated

yeah i used to think it would be easier to find your kid to do more productive things during a day but its really hard t convince kids to do things they dont want to.
