Since rap became less about bars jumping on someone else’s song to remix it (like Wayne used to) became pointless because most likely the song was liked because of the melody or hook

Yeah but what about r&b singers?

    Spot on

But these things made it feel like putting in work to have a great collection of music which was ultimately more satisfying than streaming tho

Albums got rawer but quality suffered a bit, less cohesion but also less forced radio hits

In the end it’s probably for the better

Well yeah and like you said no point in giving out free songs. Used to have to pay for distribution for physical albums

Yeah I know. I just feel like mixtapes gave more space for creativity than these new plataforms.

Artists wanted to get more visibility instead of just making a hit

How Fly w/ Curren$y, Kush & Orange Juice, Cabin Fever, Taylor Allderdice, 28 Grams. That was a pretty strong run, 5 years in a row of dope material. You can say that you heard those mixtapes and didn't like them, but that would just be you. In the grand scheme of things, Wiz was one of the main figures of the mixtape era. He was like a whole different artist compared to what he was doing on his albums.. and I'm not even a Wiz fan or anything.

I also consider the tape Detroit by Big Sean better than all of his studio albums.. J.Cole is another artist who peaked on mixtapes.

Tbh I would never listen to Curren$y either just not appealing to me but, obviously this is all subjective so respect to your taste. I did give those projects a listen at the time and did not fw them at all, maybe due to the fact that I saw Wiz and his rap style as corny and that's hard to separate for me. I may be older then you (26) or may not but i would never think of wiz when it comes to mixtapes in their prime i would think of g unit, lil wayne

    This

Wiz Khalifa was definitely one of the more prominent Mixtape names in the late 2000s

If Drake, Cudi, Wayne, Cole were Tier A, Id put Wiz right below them.

Bro you're doing too much. Other posters have agreed that his mixtape run was noteworthy and we moved on. You are going in circles and I don't even care about Wiz that much to give him all those posts.
