I’m 5’9 175 with a dad bod. Gotta start working out before it’s too late but I have no idea where to start. My apartment complex has a gym inside and it would be a waste if I didn’t utilize it now. Anyone have some basic workout routines that are good for beginners?
Dude my apartment complex has a gym inside! How do I start working out!
How about you take your ass downstairs tf
we got a fitness thread pinned
If youre an absolute beginner go with a dumbbell routine and work your way up to a beginner strength routine like phraks greyskull.
figure out your fitness goals, if you want to build strength, be aesthetic, lose fat, gain weight etc.
dont design your own routine, find one online based on how many days you wanna be in the gym each week
Go online and look for a bjj/mma/boxing gym around your area
They’ll get you right and you’ll learn a skill

Honestly say "fuck it" and go outside right now and start running.
My friend lost 18kg in 5 months from running now he's doing 10 Km runs for fun
Well first off, determine what goal you have. “Working out” doesn’t mean the same thing for everyone. Are you trynna get big, are you trynna get lean, do you just wanna be strong, etc.
Second, find a routine to help you reach that goal. If your goal is muscle gain, follow “Natural Hypertrophy” on youtube. Guy literally gives free programs, reviews popular programs, and has guides on how to make your OWN training program.

If your goal is just overall health. Just start doing cardio ever over day or every day. I recommend a 2 Mile run.

Idk @op i think you just pick up some heavy s*** and then put it down
My advice would be start with reps you can do completely, and keep doing it until you establish a rule. No matter what if youre not consistent then nothing you do will stick. Then when you establish a rythym you can increase your weights/reps
just go
watch videos on youtube to learn certain workouts and find a good workout split for beginners
use this website - its super condensed information, really easy to understand
thefitness.wiki
f*** all of those gym influencers, dont listen to them
calculate your tdee - tdeecalculator.net - eat 300 or 500 LESS than your tdee if you want to lose weight
get a program -
thefitness.wiki/routines/strength-training-muscle-building - i reccomend Greyskull LP with the phraks variant.
greyskull.app
finally, watch Pumping Iron

Eat less, move more. That's all it is.
If you wanna lose fat all you have to do is manage your calories and get into a caloric/energy deficit figure out your TDEE which is a combination of your basal metabolic rate and your activity through-out your day. Then eat under that and you'll lose weight.
Mainly I would focus on doing 1-2 hours of moderate intensity cardio and eating around 1500-1700 calories a day. Don't do any of those joke diets.
This is coming from a guy that started at 36% bodyfat and lost 70 pounds, now I'm 12% bodyfat. It was completely worth it too
If you want to build muscle follow a routine that prioritizes the major muscle groups/lifts. Think Bench, OHP, and Squat and lift heavy so you break down the muscle fibers so you induce hypertrophy.

You gotta have a routine. You can’t just go to the gym and do random s***.

wow that's freaking awesome. good for you my guy. i'm not going for a complete body transformation--I have pretty broad shoulders so I hold the weight well considering my height. but i'm definitely looking to cut weight and add muscle.
had experience losing 40 pounds on a mix of keto and intermittent fasting (does wonders when you mix the two). i've kept intermittent fasting but dropped keto just to maintain my weight. pretty decent with counting calories as I usually aim for 1300-1500 per day (although welcome week has definitely thrown that for a loop). appreciate the advice! will follow that for sure.
