I go to a restaurant quite often, staff know me by name type of deal.
They have this bomb dry age wagyu that I get every so often even though it’s mad expensive (over $100). I order it medium rare. Anyway, last night, that s*** was brought out to me well done which ruined it. I ate it and didn’t say anything though.
My friends who were with me have been calling me a b**** ever since and saying I should have sent it back and that I’m crazy to have paid for what they gave me.
For me, though, I feel they were just having an off night and somebody f***ed up. It’s just whatever to me, not that serious. It wasn’t worth it to me to get someone in trouble especially after all the other good experiences I’ve had there.
What y’all think?
you should have said something. Well done steaks are an obscenity to begin with let alone if you’re paying top dollar for it

honestly you can most of the time ask for something if an order's f***ed up, its not too big of a deal as long as ur not like overdoing it
usually the waiter is just hoping that something didnt f*** up ur night to make u tip less but if ur tipping well that's totally reasonable to ask for
if someone ordered that steak well done the chef should have refused to make it because that’s just wasting s***. No reason for that to ever end up on someone’s plate

Yeah but this is the most expensive cut of meat they have. For sure, the chef/cook woulda heard about it if they had to make me another one for free.

even then if its not necessarily your fault im sure its not a big deal
people send back food for the actual dumbest reason so if ur food is like actually not correct for a legitimate reason then it should be fine
What’s next? You’re gonna let the chef f*** your gf in front of you and not say anything?

its nice that you're being thoughtful about it though, and people are just used to being overly demanding to service workers cuz its one of the few times they get to have power over people so im sure whoever messed up appreciated it
Ur friends are right tbh and they just want u to stand up for urself
They’re just scared that in a life or death situation they wont be able to count on their bro, now they know he’s gonna fold

LMAO, nah but that’s crazy different like I don’t really care about the steak that much at all. I ate it, it is what it is.
Tbh, I never worked in the back of a restaurant so I dunno how it goes. What happens if one of the cooks really f***s up something mad expensive? Do they just accept that as part of the business or what?
I just didn’t want to get anyone fired over some steak temperature.

They not firing anyone in this job market

They have a % of their budget reserved for it usually it’s 10% of loss allowed
If you don’t care about it it’s no big deal don’t bother them for nothing tho cause it’s just a pain when you’re in a rush to have one more meal to cook
They didn't f*** up your Big Mac, they f***ed up your $100 steak. tell them remake that s***.
Im picturing op eating his s*** with tears in his eyes thinking about the money he’s spending on it

But that’s the thing if it was a $10 burger I’d send that s*** back right away, it’s more the ethics of potentially f***ing someone’s job cause I’m too privileged to eat a steak at a different temperature
I would've told them but still ate it and not bother to make a new one. If they wanna give me free drinks or something then cool
As someone that worked in the kitchen of a fancy restaurant, trust me, a steak pretty much means nothing to them but to you it's over 100$ of your money, so don't be afraid to pressure them into giving you your money's worth.
They would probably be happy if you sent it back since the staff would get to eat it.

This the type of insight I was looking for
@op I understand not sending it back if it was cheap. But how are you gonna pay $100 for something and not get what you paid for? Stand up for yourself bro

This is it. I worked at a highly rate restaurant (IHOP) and people would purposefully f*** up food just to eat it later on.
