I'm not sure if this is the thread for this, but what do you think about AI civil rights if they start to become self aware

  • Undecided

I know plenty of folks who do this in their daily life. lol

"Look at this gardening Ive done."

Man you paid a landscaper to do all that. there is no "You" involved past handing over some money.

god forbid you have taste and know how to outsource!

    @survival_horror

I would like to be a bit more clear brotha

If self-aware AI robots become part of society and start replacing both white-collar and blue-collar workers, at what point do we stop calling them “machines” and start asking whether they deserve civil rights?

And if people refuse to see them as living beings because they were “built” instead of born, how different is that from the way some people dehumanize immigrants, workers, or anyone they see as disposable?

I can already see protest now, governments will have to produce a ubi system. People wll look down on them as they did my ancestors and still do.

I fear some of us in here would kill an AI robot if they had a chance even if it had feelings, and i'm not sure I'd be ok with that.

i hear you and my serious answer is:

I don't think we'll encounter a level of intelligence artificially generated that is indistinguishable from humans in our lifetime.

If we do, i mean sure they can and should have the same rights as people.

but tbh - this is one of those, "I'm not giving it mental bandwidth until it's my reality" situations

management truly believes that the achievements of their employees are the achievements of themselves its really funny.

And only once the actual owners of the company fire the managers themselves will they realise they were never actually capitalists, they were simply workers with a lot of seniority & more fiat

& they probably still won't develop any class consciousness

Tbf if NintendAI managed to make sentient Gen 1 - 5 robots which could battle, I'd be torn
    But still be against it

I'd be vexed though & start going door to door across the whole city 'you MFers better hurry up & join this revolution
If I can turn down a Charizard then you can learn to want a better quality of life '

Given that folks like Sam Altman already want us to see AI as a new resource/utility like water, electricity, shelter etc.
I can also see a world where trash people would value their AI robots over the lives of real people, sort of like how white people think their dog is more important than a human

& we already got folks getting attached to these Chat Bots, we in for a few black mirror & futurama plotlines at some point
