America is huge, socialism can work in countries that are like a fifth of the size of here tho sure
i believed this until i looked up the largest countries in the world by land mass
lock in and get good and you will do fine
It’s more so about setting a standard of living for citizens than people being lazy and not wanting to work
i believed this until i looked up the largest countries in the world by land mass
Landmass is one thing but i was meaning population. If the power structure in america was more authoritarian or concentrated to one branch then it would be easier for this size of country but there’s so many people and so much bureaucracy between federal, state, and THe branches between them
if anything the fact that the us wouldnt really require industrialization on the same scale that russia and china did is a massive advantage to the post revolutionary conditions over there
the only reason it would need it in theory is for the inevitable ground invasion from canada supported by the uk and european bourgeoisie class
writing fanfics is my passion

the current state structure will not carry over in case of a marxist leninist revolution anyhow, you might be interested in State and Revolution by Lenin
Niggas jus tryna get by man
This is copium tbh
Yes there is a large stratum of Americans who are genuinely tasked with ensuring their material survival on a daily basis. No, there has never been a point in history where the large majority of a working class within a country were completely organized towards a single cause of a Marxist revolution
But there are millions of Americans who struggle but don't have to fight for survival daily, who just don't give a f***. It's a common enough thing in the west/liberal society in general, but this kind of apathy is especially potent in the USA
The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.
That's not how socialism works
socialist logic:
> claim to represent working people
> unemployed
Unemployed people are still part of the working class. They're part of the reserve army of workers. Sure there is a small portion of unemployed people who just truly do not give a f*** and don't want to work or go to school or do anything productive yet expect to live off of the fruits of other people's labor, but that's precisely capitalist thinking, not socialist. Capitalists literally survive off of other people's labor, often doing absolutely nothing other than attending board meetings and press conferences themselves.
what if you don't want to be a worker/wagie forever?
Do you think being a business owner is sunshine and rainbows? Or are you truly delusional enough to think that you're going to work really hard and over time you'll be a rich enough to live off of other people's labor and do little-to-none yourself?
The hell of capitalism is the firm, not that the firm has a boss.
Nothing positive will ever happen, the system has gotten too good at distraction and brainwashing now. There’s nothing to be curious about, us working people are living in hell. It’s over
Nah. The contradictions of the system naturally and periodically produce intense crises that end up shaking things up. The powers that be have been incredible at staving off total collapse...but only by pummeling the environment, the most vulnerable populations around the world, and any remote emergence of socialism on the planet. But none of that has been able to truly overcome the unstable nature of capitalism, especially in its late stages.
Socialist utopia is everyone working at a factory until they're 60 while having great benefits
I mean throw in low-cost housing, guaranteed employment, and universal healthcare/education and yeah that sounds like a dream to me tbh. Not sure what planet you're living on
America is huge, socialism can work in countries that are like a fifth of the size of here tho sure
What
If you're a single and childless making low six figures, you have options
How many people does this honestly apply to, are the people who this doesn't apply to deserving of the indignities they face by simply trying to survive and do an honest day's work, and does making six figures shield you from the potential to get fired, see your form of labor automated, or have a completely subordinate and dehumanizing position at your place of employment?
Make more money and invest in your dreams/passions
How does one simply "make more money"?
materialist cope
Nope. Chasing your dreams is dumb. When it comes to working, chase your skills and your opportunities, and make sure you're not doing something you hate. Idealizing work is a recipe for disappointment and/or kneecapping your economic/personal growth for the sake of chasing a (near-)fantasy
If you're poor in NYC FAFSA and TAP will pay you to attend a cuny school. highschool guidance counselors are failing these kids
I truly think this may be the most inept take I've seen regarding inner city poverty, and I say this as someone whose guidance counselor completely s*** the bed when I was in high school.
Poor people can get FAFSA grants and a degree from a cheap state college
What if you're not academically inclined? What if your family needs you to stay at home and work in order to avoid eviction? What if you have no means of physically attending the school? What if you can't afford anything to do with school regardless of the grant for tuition or even housing? What if you can pull off going to college but are realistically incapable of pursuing one of the more obvious, lucrative majors offered, thus making the entire pursuit almost futile? What if FAFSA doesn't cut you a grant that satisfies your needs? Why has every other developed country, and every socialist country, on the planet adopted an at least free public option for college, with all of the examples of such a system being resounding successes every time it's been implemented?
automate everything, tax the s*** out of corporations and implement UBI so I can live out my nepo baby dreams
On what planet would a capitalist society that has successfully automated the entire labor force, or even the entire general labor force, also going to be the planet that responsibly taxes corporate profits? Literally what is the incentive to do that? UBI would cover bare minimum expenses to keep consumption viable in order to avoid systemic collapse, it's not going to be fun coupons from billionaires "looking out for the greater good", it's them ensuring 100% extraction of surplus value by not having to pay wages any more but still existing within a system that needs consumer activity to survive, that can't be offset purely by luxury/industrial markets.
why should i care that someone has more than me if i'm still living good
Why should I care if the CEO of Palantir is openly advocating for the genocide of Palestinians if I can make rent this month? Also, with moneyed interests utterly and openly controlling the entire American political landscape, what risk does leaving someone like that in a position of power have towards democracy, environmental sustainability (war is, amongst other things, very pollutive), and peaceful coexistence amongst our species?
Do you hear yourself?
I'm left wing but if I inherited a 4 family I'm renting that s*** at market price and will try not to be a d*** if I can afford to
They have rental properties in Cuba
not everyone who works is broke
The majority of people who are working are living paycheck to paycheck I don't care about your cousin who was able to game the Forex market for a few months.
Made a thread that was indirectly about this and niggas cooked tf outta me
Link the thread fam
government should hand out fat bi weekly checks to its people so society can focus on arts
Socialism is when the government spends money. The United States military is socialist. Public schools? Socialist. Roads? Socialist. Law enforcement? Socialist. Honestly, we already live in a socialist country!
I'm interested
Yeah like I understand not fully committing to every single aspect of the theory. I subscribe to it, but I understand the hesitation and/or potential confusion around the theories, or even skepticism to an extent. But time and time again we have at least seen socially-oriented, pro-worker policies get passed that make the entire society more stable and just happier.
There's no hard time-table for how long it takes to build socialism. It takes as long as it takes, just moving in that direction is good. Love what Xiomara Castro has done in Honduras for example.
America is huge, socialism can work in countries that are like a fifth of the size of here tho sure
Socialism actually has a better chance of success developing in a big country if the big country is highly industrialized, which the USA is. The reason socialism had a hard time getting off the ground (but was/is ultimately successful and an improvement over the preceding mode of production in these respective societies) in Russia/China is because they were both extremely underdeveloped and isolated. But even against those odds, they changed the f***ing world and became superpowers.
