not rlly
I mean definitely not in the way that he’s saying it, but overconsumption can kill stimulation, and habits arise out of it. Addiction can be found in anything
op is secretly just plato posting from beyond the grave
everything he saying already been said by old azz greek dudes
and it was just as cringe the first time around

thats true I guess
usually addiction implies some sort of negative tho. I know thats not technically part of the dictionary definition. but its part of the word's practical meaning. There is no negative to loving music.
In other words, technically yes ur right music addiction is a thing but phrasing it that way is misleading and feeds into weirdos like OP

There is no negative to loving d**** in itself as well. What is negative is the effect of overconsumption of whatever it is, which in itself is cyclical with the love one forms for that thing

ok but there's not really any negative effect of overconsumption of music
you could say it reduces enjoyment ya. Sure, the dopamine response u get from a song will eventually diminish after enough listens. I don't think thats a negative tho tbh.
ur still getting a dopamine response its just a little less. with basically any other addiction there's some degree of actually detrimental effects (social withdrawal, unhealthy habits, etc.) but not so with music.

there is a potential negative effect and it doesn't have to have some scientific scary name you can just be bored and uninterested lol

thats not what I mean.
sure ur gnna get bored n uninterested w a song/artist after enough listens
is this a bad thing on a societal level? Is this unhealthy? Does it actually do anything bad to u or others around u?
music "addiction" is a mislabeling of normal human activity
calling a love of music an addiction only serves to prop up this guy's insane moral absolutist and extremist position

IMO there is just a generally harmful effect where, once you get used to constant on-demand dopamine, it becomes harder to get through activities that require some focus without having it around
so you try to multi-task and overload your brain
like have you ever met a mf who cant study or read a book without turning on a lofi playlist or some s***

mh yeah thats not because they listened to too much music or whatever
some ppl's brains just work like that. This has been the case for all of modern human existence.

gotta disagree tbh I think modern attention spans are significantly shorter than normal and there is scientific evidence to back it up
literally on this site itself people are unable to read full paragraphs while mfs back in the day were writing sentences that ran on for five lines at a time
no its not
I mean it’s operant conditioning. The more you listen to music the less you’re inclined to not listen to it, since music is innately stimulating to the brain. Not listening to music becomes less appealing even though it’s the neutral, natural state
Existing in a position of constant stimulation as a result of ease of access and one’s increasing obsession with music can lead to over exposure that has adverse effects on your psyche. Whether it be deficits in attention span, delayed gratification, etc, constantly exposing ourselves to immediate gratification is bad

cant brush their teeth in the morning without listening to yeat ffs we are doomed

she said she feel it now i dont even feel at all

overuse of addiction or the overuse of the word dopamine on the internet is annoying, people will attach it to anything to suit their agenda, but it is obviously a real thing
Being bored of music/anything is regular human behaviour, it could be unhealthy given other conditions also exist but yeah most of the time its just part of living

did I say modern attention spans aren't getting shorter? I agree w u that ppl have worse attention spans now than they used 2.
I just realllllllly doubt music has ANYTHING to do with this

It’s not about music itself but access, consumption, and subsequent effects of these conditions

what subsequent effects bruh
u guys keep talking abt reduced attention span when there's like a billion other things that make so much more sense to blame
why blame music? There's zero evidence listening to more music shortens ur attention span
there are a few pretty loosely conducted studies that suggest some people can develop unhealthy emotional relationships with certain songs. But these studies fail to account for the fact that the unhealthy emotional situation might be causing the music listening, not the other way around. All that's really known is that a mild correlation might potentially exist between experiencing emotions and listening to music (i.e. feeling sad, listening to sad music).
That's a lot of words to say that no there's no evidence for anything that ur saying abt music having negative effects on mental health
come on man get real
think abt the immense amount of music u have listened to. Ur really telling me ur life would be better if you listened to LESS music? U really believe this?

Nobody is saying your life is gonna be better if you listen to less music, people just said that toning down consumption at times can be good for you lol

that question at the end goes out to anyone taking OP seriously btw
I mean think abt who thinks music is evil and who thinks music is wonderful
on one side we have EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE ARTISTS AND THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF HUMANITY
on the other side we have ISIS, the medieval church, and miscellaneous religious extremists.
I know which team im on
