No offense to nurses, but they often think they know more than they do. This is the wrong advice. Most of the time dog bites require antibiotics, regardless of how “sick” the dog looks. And that’s not even for rabies, that’s for other bacteria
For rabies, there are more things to consider when determining whether someone needs rabies prophylaxis.
There’s also considerations about tetanus prophylaxis

For what it's worth it takes a while to develop, so if you get bit and you treat it immediately it's safe to say you're not infected. But once it develops, it's a wrap. I got bit by a dog in 2005 and luckily it didn't have it, but soon as it happened we went to the emergency room with the quickness
