Man I remember going down to Atlanta with a homie that was on this show and meeting most of Awful Records. Father wasn't even "Father" yet lol.

They were making some noise but at the time everybody kinda had a crew that was making noise online. Hung out with some of them for a few days and kept in touch with a lot of ATL peeps after that. Kept hearing about this Makonnen dude from everybody. The way the next year went for Awful Records and Makonnen is still crazy to me. Really opened my eyes seeing it first hand.

Crazy that all these years later Faye Webster, Zack Fox, and Carti are the biggest things that came out of that circle.

s*** was better back then in terms of the “industry”. independent niggas were literally running their own tours. artists forging their own path outside of the major label system, and on top of that they were actually making boundary pushing rap.

idk what’s going on anymore but there’s a reason the blog and then soundcloud era (to me that’s 2009-2018) is so f***ing goated because it was weirdo niggas gettin on with weirdo music. we had a whole community with it really just being fans and the artists. it really felt like the future, and it was actually ABOUT the music, ie all niggas had to do was post it on soundcloud and a video was just extra.

now if artists aren’t spamming tiktok with slop and garbage trying to promote their actual music they have no chance. this whole s*** is beyond cooked and im just waiting for the collapse at this point

So so ahead of its time. I can’t stress enough that Makonnen could’ve been huge if he blew up during the TikTok era . Gen Z would’ve love this music
