Honestly pick an artist and read their works. Start with Baldwin, then Angela Davis, then Colson Whitehead, etc. etc.
Read them front to back one artist a Month
Black men and masculinity: we real cool is a good book for me by bell hooks
Another is citizen by Claudine Rankine tho I never finished it. Give both a shot if you want.
The Bluest Eye - Toni Morrison
Giovanni's Room - James Baldwin
Homegoing - Yaa Gysai
Parable of the Sower - Octavia Butler
I really wanna get into Octavia Butler books in the coming year. But also would like some black or at least non-white fantasy, sci-fi writers to get into who are new.

home going is really ambitious without forcing it, idk how to explain it without spoiling it too much. better to just go into it knowing its kinda like an African 100 years of solitude
really enjoyed it. tragically beautiful.

octavia butler is great, honestly a great intro to black sci-fi writings. also have heard good things about NK Jemisin. She has a sci-fi fantasy series that was highly rated. also Evan Winter has this fantasy series apparently dude was just an independent writer who's book got really really big. The Rage of Dragons is the first book in the series.
