You're missing the point fam. Theres plenty of movies without black people. But when the only black actors you have are hotel service workers and voice actors portraying stereotypical 'dumb gang members', you don't think that reinforces some negative perceptions?

Clown me if you want, but scenes like that alley cat one I described reinforce negative stereotypes and create the next generation of racists. Its why things like anti-racism and unlearning systemic racism exist. Media has always pushed these caricatures in seemingly 'harmless' ways, but it has lasting effects on people.

    Op is right though

aren't all the characters hotel workers tho?

  • Mar 3, 2021

Thanks for a biased and not very constructive criticism of a new family-friendly movie that I wouldn’t watch some time.

look, everything in our society is built off of racism, sexism, and homophobia; but you highlighting that fact doesn't make you sound smarter. sometimes we can just enjoy problematic things because nothing is perfect and everything a little f***ed

I opened this thread before it even went to the second page thinking op was wrong, but after looking through it, op is right lol.

I enjoyed the movie but def got the same take. The only human black characters were like mock characters and then the cartoon characters were mob guys using black vernacular. Kinda weird but I guess that's what's mostly portrayed of us mainstream wise

Imagine being mad that there are working class black characters.

Could be an awful movie though. Never going to find out.

I guess I must've missed the part where op deserves to be clowned

Ppl who say he's reaching are the type who think racism only exists if someone shouts racial slurs.

It was. They stopped doing the offensive black woman character over half a century ago after being called out for it, and it's been changed around multiple times since in attempts to wash that stain away.

You probably remember seeing their random white owners (in the few episodes where owners appear at all) because thats virtually all anyone saw if they grew up in the 80s and 90s. The showrunners even went back and edited the old episodes with the offensive black woman and replaced her character's appearance/voice (or just cropped and muted her out of scenes) multiple times over the years.

It strange to see this be talked about as if kids in 1990 were sitting in front of their TVs watching Tom & Jerry episodes with Aunt Jemima 2.0 regularly or something. Those episodes themselves only make up the first 12 years of the franchise, which kept cranking out new episodes and spin-off series for another 50 years after the character was removed.

Well a bunch of niggas on Clubhouse (who’s on the lower end of the film industry, like hallmark movie type creators) was saying white people don’t have their permission to write black characters
