Weeknd is the king of Pop but not in the same way MJ was

MJ was the King of Pop because his hits were unescapable, his voice literally defined a decade plus of Music as a whole. I love The Weeknd but he's simply not that for his generation. he's 'just' an artist who makes great music and visuals, and he makes hit records. but not the same

    Bey is the Queen

Bad Bunny is huge but I don't know...
If you ask me the current 'Prince of Pop' is Rema....

the #'s may not reflect it but I feel like he will get there sooner than ppl expect

rema is mad underrated, dirty and carry are 2 of the most fire songs ive heard in a minute.

only worry I have for him is he's the latest in a long line of nigerian acts who quickly progress to this incredible level of quality that only season vets should have. with most of those acts, after they reach that height, they drop off significantly, none of them reaching that davido, burna and Wiz space.

first person i can think of is mr eazy but he's from a long time ago, more recently is fireboy, omah lay etc who even though have been releasing fire, haven't really captured the scene the way you think they would have. I hope he does well though because this last album was increĂble.

im excited for him, but im gonna wait and see what happens..

Beyonce isn't really pop. She's a crossover R&B star like Usher.

And she's going through her early 2010's Usher phase atm.

this is interesting. can you run this line of thinking through taylor swift?

for no other reason than my curiosity

How when it released to mixed reactions and has only been praised afterwards by mostly invested Weeknd fans?

It didn’t have mixed reactions, it just didn’t sell well lmao.

I disagree, if she covered a wider range she’d be selling over 500k.

I disagree, if she covered a wider range she’d be selling over 500k.

You’re talking quantity and I’m talking about diversity.. the fact that she’s a consistent seller through the mediums.. physical, digital to streaming and she was able to transition through each generation as effortlessly as she has compared to her contemporaries is a testament to how diverse and inclusive her listener base is..
the acts that debut with her are unable to capture the Gen Z audience like Bey in the same way that Gen Z artists like Doja and LNX don’t have her reach with older milllenials, 30+ crowd m
Her concerts tell the same story just the same

Tbh Beyonce wouldn’t have been able to even enjoy the longevity as a front runner in this music s*** for 25+ years for as consistently as she has IF there wasn’t a wide range of ages that listen to her.. it’d be impossible for her to still compete and hold her own with new acts that were small children when she was in her commercial prime lol

..you’re only using the less than. <500k angle because she’s projected to sell less in 2022.. using that to discredit jus how diverse the age bracket is for her base is just lazy work..
