bro said he wanted to get back into reading, and like 20 different users recommended every book they’ve ever read
A Fortune-Teller Told Me: Earthbound Travels in the Far East by Tiziano Terzani
From the Holy Mountain: A Journey Among the Christians of the Middle East by William Dalrymple
Mediterranean Winter by Robert Kaplan
Shadow of the Sun by Ryszard Kapuscinski (since it’s not obvious from the title, it’s about his travels in Africa)
These are in a similar vein as Rebecca West and Patrick Leigh Fermor mentioned earlier: delightful travelogues with high-quality writing that dig deep into the history and cultures of the places they go. This genre really oils my gears because the Venn diagram of the books’ contents and my interests is basically just a circle. So I think any of these would be great to check out.
you made my day thank you so much

you still looking for a way to get into Nietzsche ? his philosophy can be very self helpy in a good way
i took a left turn and decided to start with this book. growing up, my family would constantly talk about hemingway and the only book i read from him was the old man and the sea, but that was so long ago i might as well have never read it

Finishing up the last pages of Beyond Good and Evil. Really like his philosophy, it is really self help in a way indeed. Just feel this book in particular is a bit messy and maybe hard to read for me cus I’m not really that familiar with all philosophies. Like I get his philosophy, but it isn’t like a self help book as in that it really teaches you how to get to that state. It got some very good parts tho.
The Fisherman by John Langan. Read it pretty much in one sitting, never been that hooked to a book.

If you like this read Old Man and Te Sea. It’s very short but really great.
What got me back into reading was 11/22/63 by Stephen King. Someone gifted to me on my birthday a few years back and loved it so much that I read like 6-7 Stephen King books back to back.
I see how it is.
jade city is still on my list i just need to take it one step at a time when it comes to bigger books

best book to start with. if u wanna keep reading him after id rec Thus speaks Zarathustra, beyond and good evil was made after Zarathustra to show case it’s ideas to an audience not used to Nietzsche, it was also Nietzsche personal favourite. After that Gebeology of Morals is good it’s my fav from him.
From these three you can get the main ideas of Nietzsche such as eternal reoccurrence, the overman, will to power, value creation. If u wanna keep up after that id rec Ecco H****cause it’s late Nietzsche evaluating his work and u can decide from that where u wanna continue
