I feel like he's almost too big to have that title. Idk, he's still selling out tours and the old tour was massive in Europe even. He had radio songs perform well
If he does fit I agree, but then I think about more niche dudes like lil ugly mane, Serengeti, or even spark master tape who aren't making waves worldwide
Internet made the term underground so difficult to define
i used to have that same train of thought but we're kind of in a bubble we're all hip hop fans on here. AE sold like 5k first week, his last album didn't chart, he's never had a single on billboard, you'll never hear him on radio or at a party he's for a niche audience.
He's like the hip hop Harmony Korine or like Vincent Gallo

Wtf Q didn't chart??? His show here sold out fast af
So weird thinking about the bubble like you mentioned. Yeah I guess he deserves that title overall, esp with the success he carved out on his own vs the 3 I mentioned
Probably like Lum as an underground artist a bit more but they're close. just not if the convo is strictly rap only, then definitely Danny
Get hi is basically Danny making his own generic weed song with his own quirks put in it. The sample is probably a top 10 most overused sample in rap too, I always thought it was the most "normal" beat on ae, and was routinely the song I introduced people to in college
These I think in comparison show the major difference in accessibility

They're both underground but Danny prolly bigger than LUM despite LUM being influential in his own right. I like to separate money from the art but Danny's work loses money that's underground as hell hah

Never understood why this take is so prevalent online, I've never seen people feel this way irl about him overall
He has some weirder songs that fit, get hi absolutely is not one of them

Danny's FAR bigger
I've maybe seen 2 other people on this site talk about volcanic bird enemy, and have never seen someone mention the recent singles collection. I think once, when it first dropped, someone linked orange over/spill
Yet this thread got 4 pages lol

It’s prevalent because it’s true despite your personal anecdotes

Get hi is one of the most basic Danny songs ever
I don't understand how that is inaccessible to anyone who doesn't exclusively listen to radio music

You act like accessibility is some binary thing. It’s either radio music or niche to you I guess. You can go right on telling me I’m wrong with anecdotes and s*** but I’m speaking from my own experience

You strike me as the type to have a Taylor Swift album ranking

When did this site start filling up with pretentious snobs? I make an inoffensive post in this thread and two identical losers want to pick a fight because I didn’t love every song on first listen. Go outside dude

One of his best songs
My fav danny songs are Lost, I Will, Pac Blood, Ain’t It Funny, Greatest Rapper Ever, ODB, Wake Up, and Fentanyl Tester
Real ass list, Wake Up
Not really a Danny fan tbh, his other albums are all just okay to me (including xxx) but this album is incredible
I dont wanna underestimate how good this album is but I feel like people overrate it compared to some other Danny albums. it's like we either talk about AE or we dont talk about bro at all. I think it's unfair bc ive been saying that Danny Brown has something like a top2 rap discographies of the last decade. and I dont even think hes at number 2 if we're talking album quality...
I just wish people talked more about the fact bro had a Hawkwind sample on XXX. or how uknowhatimsayin is one of the most musically cohesive albums out there. or that Old is underrated in general. but I love that AE became this redemption story for him in how it for real left an impact on a ton of people even though it was tough piecing it together. I love danny brown man god bless him. he one of the GOATs
Real ass list, Wake Up
Used to roll squares smoke swishers in the basement, momma never said s*** cause she felt my pain
Nah u got it it’s definitely a NY State of Mind level song
Right exactly. It goes NY State of Mind, Get Hi, Rapper’s Delight as far as impact goes
Used to roll squares smoke swishers in the basement, momma never said s*** cause she felt my pain
He blacks the f*** out on that whole song, that whole flow when he does the ‘got the game locked in a crowbar’
evian christ went so crazy on the pneumonia beat, wish he produced for rappers more often but it's def a thing that only someone like Danny or Kanye is brave enough to tackle his style
