Damn the flashback at the end of 2. That’s a beautiful heart wrenching flashback man. It’s been a minute might have to rewatch the trilogy soon! The thread restoring the vibe!
one of the things i got to disagree with is the godfather being overrated because I can see how one may come to that conclusion
but 1 & 2 are magnificent and some gorgeous masterful story telling that birthed so much, many may just see it a gangster film but it is much more.
The sequel of this changed the game man, it has aged so gracefully

yeah everyone saying it’s overrated is out of their minds. especially when it inspired a lot of their favorite directors lol
I definitely prefer 1 over 2. It’s so graceful and atmospheric for a mob film. Brando, Michael’s tragic arc, Sonny beating the s*** out of Carlo, the baptism scene? Damn that s*** is legendary.
Im def not about visuals only, not every film warrants that even if i may love those kind of films
No hate but I think Godfather movies are way visually superior to Noe or Jodorowsky. Will post screenshots tomorrow if you want
So Coda title just spoils the f***ing movie??????????!!!!
If you want the explanation, I've put it here, but DON'T READ unless you've seen The Godfather Part III/Coda
Coppola re-edited it so that Michael doesn't actually die in Coda
IMO Part 1 is the best, Part 2 is still a great movie but I think it basically just repeats the themes of the first one, the third has this problem while also just being a much less impressive movie, also insane take but I feel like De Niro underplays young Vito too much, he's harder to connect to for me
1 is basically perfect IMO, Gordon Willis is the GOAT for creating the look of the series too, one of those films that will never age visually, you can look at some movies from the 80s and their flat, desaturated appearance pins them to a moment, but each frame of The Godfather 1+2 is timeless art

That's personal preference, so i won't argue that. But one thing you forgot brother is the fact that a Jodo or Noé film doesn't merely do bold visual stuff for the f*** of it, they also serve another purpose
For Noé it's the immersive visceral headspace it puts you in, and for Jodo there's really rich esoteric symbolism placed in the mise en scene. As much as the Godfather def holds up, they don't provide these 2 specific things because the Godfather is a straight up drama/crime story first and foremost
Not that i feel like comparing them to Godfather because they're in different ball parks, but since you brought em up
has anyone itt read The Godfather book?
thinking of copping
it's par with the movie
Should I watch Godfather 3 or Coda?
Regular, only small changes and they some bullshit
Part 3 way too underrated, s*** is an amazing movie to me. Up there with the first 2 imo.
i thought he deserved it and it was really satisfying. i hate seeing women get beat on, even in fiction so i was ready for him to be killed from the jump
i am confused on how Mike knew he was the mole. but i figure i’ll connect the dots when i rewatch bc there’s a lot of significant stuff and characters that went over my head the first time
Ah. yeah it might make more sense second watch, the answers are there. It’s so cool how it only shows the conspiracy behind closed doors in one scene, and for the rest of the movie it’s mostly implied. It really respects the audience and doesn’t lay it on too thick at all

it’s amazingly similar at points, w a bunch of random extra s***.
It’s not unpopular to prefer pt1, I prefer the pt2 ,one of my favorite openings of a film… feels borderline like a biblical epic, along with the dynamic of Vito developing this ruthless for admirable reasons v Michael in ‘present day’ actually being this superevil in his world, the emotional/physical carnage etc

Sorry but this is dumb, of course there is no specific esoteric symbolism in the godfather and it doesn’t put you in a immersive visceral headspace, how is that a reason to call something overrated? If you think there is no symbolism in the mise en scene in the Godfathers you haven’t payed enough attention watching the movies. The story of Michael is much more of a Greek or Shakespearean tragedy than a crime story, the crime is just a device for the story to be told.

You should check out the series “The Offer” if you have not already, based on the creation of the making of the godfather
1 > 2
michael's character arc in the 1st movie is the best single-movie character arc of all time
