Like we weren’t in the 5th grade saying slob on my knob like corn on the cob and taking b****es to the candy shop or in 8th grade on some lick me like a lollipop type s***. Mfs blow me with their fake outrage lol.

I guess we’re acting like Nicki Minaj never existed, huh?

I was listening to Eminem when I was North’s age, which arguably has WAY more concerning lyrics. But what’s more concerning is the fact is Kim is trying to Monetize a 10 year old’s childhood.

Though if I was Ye I’d be more concerned at North listening to something so sexual than Saint listening to Eminem or some gangster rap s***.

thats the point, back then we didnt know how badly it was influenced.

now what is our generation full of? oversaturated city girls and thots and overly sexualized hip hop, r&b ,materialistic junk

  • Not a bad influence we just don't need kids posting the tik tok with ice spice. its an odd energy of mixing those lusting after ice spice with kids .

  • Mar 18, 2023

Ice Spice does have the perfect image at this moment. It can go so many different ways right now its interesting to follow and see what direction she will go in.

The pinkpantheress feature was a great move into furthering the internet stronghold and being a part of the y2k swag movement. if they are smart they should avoid all the rappers tbh

Damn Rory and Mal have resorted to gossiping about little girls

    That’s tough

  • Mar 18, 2023

All joking aside it’s really a tough question tbh

She’s like 22 years old and the music she makes is extremely catchy and she does look like a bitomji lol

But on the other hand she is extremely sexualized so idk if I want my 9 year old listening to her music but then again my 9 year old ain’t gonna hear it the same way I hear it

in general parenting is harder and harder given the open access of the internet and technology, but it's not impossible. at the end of the day, it's still parents' job to restrict their kids' access and regulate what their kids see (or if they see something they shouldn't, intervene appropriately). there's valid concerns about platforms not having good enough controls for kids, but like, acting like heavily sexualized media or figures is something new - even in terms of accessibility - is misguided.
I mean Foxy Brown was active in, what, the 90s? That was 30 years ago, and it's not like she was some niche artist confined only to rap fanatics - she was going platinum, even w/o today's internet, exposure to her (or similar acts/media) would have been easy.
If kids are ultimately replicating what they see in media, which seems to be the main critique here given North's age (which is 100% a valid concern since it's weird af), it's not good but that's not really the media's fault by itself intrinsically, it's the parents. Media can be influential but ultimately parental/familial norms and values are moreso.
That all said, with people like Ice Spice, I mean, obviously when you're talking about "extreme sexualization", it's not liek it's a mistake, it's of course by design. You wouldn't be hearing about her if did everything the same way but wasn't doing any of this sexualized stuff and/or wasn't attractive. It's depressing to a degree but that's nothing new, people's entire career being based on s***appeal goes back to like, the dawn of media itself

Great post. Very balanced and well thought out

I understand bringing up artists of the past

But with the internet and tiktok being here it just feels like a different ballgame

even for female music from the 2000s we had s*** like

    Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous Girl
    Fergie - London Bridge
Lady Gaga - LoveGame (wanna take a ride on your disco stick)
Brittney Spears - If You Seek Amy (F-U-C-K Me)

nothings really changed over the years

Yeah but we weren’t recording ourselves singing those things with dances and posting it to the internet

Ice Spice definitely catching a stray in the next Kanye interview

  • Everyone saying the same "we had sexual music in our time"

Its not about that lol. Its about a 9 year old posting it on tik tok who has millions of followers who at least a small percentage of which will sexualize HER

its not about her liking ice spice in her own privacy or posting to her myspace or her private facebook or instagram

its about how many eyes she has on her and how ice spice post brought additional eyes to her some of which are creepers and she spinning around and shaking her butt

  • so much pain

I forgot about a couple of these. Yeah nothing has really changed. Idk why people are so up in arms about this lol this is really such a non issue that was blown out of proportion.

It is definitely different in terms of immediate access, which I think is an issue, but parenting evolves relative to environment. Take for example the inception of like NWA and how that affected music ratings in the industry because of parents complaining. That was a new phenomenon which lead to distinctions in how parents policed media. The same could be said about the initial internet as it permeated early culture in the 2000s, esp. after the growth of cellphone usage 2007-11
I think parents can sometimes be slow to adapt to change and you get missed generations who fall prey to the fact the prior generation is adjusting. Like for example a lot of older Gen Z may have had very supervised media consumption with traditional media (i.e. TV), but very little w/ Internet. I think now you're seeing the next step, kids with internet supervision, but very little with social media or specific apps. Parents need to catch up to the norms of the generation before it can be regulated - I do think there is an external responsibility to a degree on media companies (there's a reason film ratings exist for example, or video games), but ultimately things like ratings are deciding factors for parents more than they are ultimately legal regulations. It's parents' jobs to instill norms in their kids. I don't think all young girls are just looking at Ice Spice if they see her and are immediately replicating her behavior - seeing it is one thing which may be an issue, but actively replicating it denotes something else the parent has likely done wrong.
