Lol you obviously aren't checking for the right s***.. production in hip hop is at an all time high in terms of creativity

Do your research before you bash something my nigga it's seriously a bad look

It’s the bigger artists fault for feeding into it knowing damn well they can be the tastemakers if they wanted to. Drake could singlehandedly change the sound of hip hop if he took initiative but he keeps on rapping over beats with the pierre formula

Edit: and I know it’s not just Drake

This is another thing I was thinking about too...

Do the artists at the top really have that power like we think? What if they fall off by trying a new sound, and that scares them?

  • Apr 10, 2020

This is why we need a new Smino project

    This is literally in OP:

"I know outside of mainstream there's plenty of variety, but outside of mainstream isn't the face of hip-hop now is it?"

  • Apr 10, 2020

Let the Cave reignite that passion for you

  • Apr 10, 2020

Also can y’all stop mentioning “Trap”, just cuz it’s a trap/trap inspired beat doesn’t mean it’s trap music... half the mainstream music ain’t “Trap” it’s just Trap inspired production...

you could say this at any point in the history of popular music though you cant force new things it comes naturally always from the underground and then it becomes sanitized

Mainstream music is a mixed bag, you gotta take the good with the bad just like everything else in life

What even is mainstream anymore? I legitimately don't understand because all the music I consider to be hot is the furthest thing from old and tired ever.. idk I just look at it differently I guess

That’s why when I talk about it I really only mention Drake. He’s the only artist that could drop a totally left field album and still go plat first week. It’s obvious that he doesn’t care about his discography and it’s not considered something so pristine to him that he has to maintain it. It’s a risk but at the same time it’d be the safest risk in music

Ironically Drake is one of the last people I'd expect to drop an experimental album. He feeds the intellectual side of his fan base with his loosies, he cares too much about numbers to do some left field s*** which is cool too

"I like 808s too but god damn, when is the next time a hip-hop hit won't sound like a Zaytoven/Mexikodro inspired song?"

So where did you even get "saying two different things" from if I've only been saying one thing the whole time?

We're not even saying different things. I'm strictly talking about hits the whole time, and I like those hits but it's a fact that they all derive from the same type of sound

I'm just saying it's weird that all the songs at the top are similar now

that’s why I wish drake would just actually try and get out of his comfort zone and not have to stick to any mainstream sound

like bro s*** will be successful no matter what you do

Also true, I’m not saying it’s something he has to do. He’s just the best person to do it if he hypothetically read this thread and wanted to do something about the problem op is talking ab

You're the second person itt to do this. Can you please not just look at a title then hit post, trust me what I wrote in OP wasn't that long:

"I know outside of mainstream there's plenty of variety, but outside of mainstream isn't the face of hip-hop now is it?"

I'm not talking about Griselda or anything like that, I'm only talking about the mainstream sound having no variety. Not that I only listen to the mainstream sound
