I mean they are basically the same thing. Two slow sci-fi films where Denis Villeneuve puts the most emphasis on world building, scale & mood
It’s just that BR2049 has the better OST/score, more vibrant color grading, a lil bit more interesting characters (the female villain >>>>) and more memorable cinematography
Something that also helps ofc is that BR2049 was a solitary experience with a satisfying ending, while Dune is only part of the full experience
TLDR: BR2049 and Dune are very similar in execution by Villeneuve but BR2049 is more memorable, have we just been spoiled by getting that film before seeing Dune?
Im not saying Dune isnt great on its own but Denis just did a similar thing already and better
2049 is eons better then Dune
That being said Dune is the first part of a grander story.
and both have completely different aesthetics going for them overall.
Just like Arrival and Sicario (both two films that i also prefer over Dune)
Why?
2048 is just a Blade Runner rehash. Ridleys is much better.
Dune is more original and overall a better movie.
What Denis did with 2048 is impressive, sequels don’t usually pan out
But it’s in the shadow of the original and can’t come out of it
Dune Pt. 1 is just a great prologue to what is about to come, either way it wouldn't have gotten more love
More hype of course, Pt. 2 is gonna break some records for sure

2049 beats the dog s*** out of the first BR
I don't get what the argument is tho? How is "love" being measured
Dune outperformed BR2049 substantially while also releasing in a pandemic. And it only told about 40-45% of the story its adapting. There's not really thaaaat much concrete fandom of BR2049 among general audiences
It has the love already

What
A lot of scenes were literally in Lynch version of Dune
Can’t say the same for BR2049 which was just set in the same universe
I respect your opinion if you prefer one over the other but this explanation is not it fam

He has no idea what he is talking about tbh

I could have worded it in another way but i felt like even tho Dune got love it felt “expected”
We already knew it was gonna be good given Denis Villeneuve history, especially with BR2049 being a similar project and being so good
I just felt like Dune would have been more exciting if it came before BR
