It's a religious fact that the more disconnected you are from Church the more prone you are to the devil's ways and the easier you are to be led astray. This is where your dad's right.
But to think that every tribulation or bad event in your life is a direct result of you not being right with God is simply not true. God does not give earthly punishments, the world does. God's punishment is reserved for the day of Judgement where we shall all stand in unison awaiting our sentence. Anything else is a result of life and human nature where the things we take can be dished back to us in mysterious ways but still this is something that God allowed yet didn't necessarily want us to go through.
As stated in James 1:13
"Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man"Neither tempteth he any man

Our will is defined by our experiences. Perhaps we have free will in the moment, but our choices and actions are all due to causality.

You really seem to have a firm understanding of your belief system. That's pretty great, and I appreciate that. I do like the idea that if there is a God they let people be people. But, I don't know how I feel about having a single day of judgement because it's not that bad, but everything I've done is gonna look way worse when it's all together and being reviewed in one day.
Well surely it is a terrifying concept but we’re all in this together u feel me?
Plus all your old wrongdoings are immediately forgiven the moment you truly seek to repent from your heart and confess your sin to God so I’m trying my best to take that route as often as possible just so I can worry less about that judgement day
