@op respect I was very wrong lol. Great discussion itt my bad for real for earlier
Don’t take tweets seriously it’s just a place where people try to get off funny responses and fake cancel people
A hit that aint even a reflection of his discography and had to catch on years after the fact.
Ok but he made a hit lmao
I’m just saying its possible and you can make a living off of music without making hits too
What...? Bro you just be saying anything lol...
What goalposts were established in this conversation please remind me because I am having trouble understanding why you are coming at me like this
You keep relying on aesthetics like these specifically curated playlists that have been intentionally pushing a certain type of music onto impressionable youth, like the ending of sales in stores where everyone was on the same playing field, and platforms like tiktok that intentionally push harmful viral content (like say white kids dancing to a sample song that sings names of dead black kids in the chorus) to said impressional youth but not a piff marti type of artist
Like what is we doing mane.

Everyone im naming can make lasting careers without making a hit. Mach Hommy making more off his music than a lot of signed rappers.
What we’re asking is “whyyyy is that the place we’ve come to.”

Bro you keep putting words into my mouth. I literally have not brought up curated playlists once in this whole conversation so I have no idea why you're bringing that up.
and LOL. You think when people bought records in physical stores that the playing field was more leveled than with social media today? Are you kidding me? There was an even higher boundary of entry and way more gatekeepers back then bro.
Platforms like TikTok don't "push harmful content." It literally just pushes what people want to see. The algorithm is lot more unbiased than record execs back in the day bro.
The fact you think it was more "fair" in physical days is insane.
What is we doing mane?
"these curated playlists are pushing music onto impressionable youth"
yeah dude totally, cause record labels were never doing that before social media / streaming services right?
Yall got it.
Good thread @op

just because you like apple videos so your feed becomes apple and fruit videos doesn't mean your algorithm isn't being manipulated
social media platforms esp Tik Tok and IG are all pretty astroturfed and filled with bots, or feds lol

So what's the difference between that and back then? The general taste of society at large was dictated on a macro level much more through outlets like MTV and magazines telling you which was the new hot artists to watch for.
Anyone who thinks it's harder now is insane. If that were true we wouldn't have so many mediocre celebrities who are famous for absolutely nothing.
No d***riding, I feel like Kendrick is one of the only rappers that could bring this s*** back if he actually built out his label and tapped in with young niggas that he believed in
he kinda already did that with Father Time. its really not too far off some s*** Ye would say on TCD or LR i think
If you wanna be mainstream big you gotta have women on your side. JID makes hoe scaring music.
Y’all act like JID is Hopsin
Bruh has some lit songs it’s just that he gets grouped in with lyrical-miracle Niggas cuz of his style
What is we doing mane?
Spending a beautiful Saturday discussing hiphop on a forum lmao
Spending a beautiful Saturday discussing hiphop on a forum lmao
its a great morning to discuss the complexities and nuances of present day rap culture with the gang
Plus it's hot as s*** outside!
Broke is a weird word to use I don’t hear that as an insult at all.
It would be seen as nerd/corny music for sure
So what are they then
Nerds who get guns and tats so white ppl think they tough and so they can look like a rapper.
It works well apparently
