mentioning Smino like there isn't a whole thread asking why smino aint big omg wtf lmaoooooooo
I feel like we are discussing two different things
Obviously if you make ignant pop rap like Ian, Yeat or whoever you’ll be more famous but you won’t retain that audience in 10 years.
No that thread is why Smino isn’t considered the greatest rapper who ever lived but of course nuance isn’t your strong point
because in literally any other era a rapper that checks off most marks like him woulda filled in a bigger niche than what he currently has now.
No no I meant why do u think rappers like Ian will see more “flash in the pan” (idk that’s the right term) success than someone like Mavi
I was referring to the part where you said “ignoring the underlying reasons why that^^^^ happens”
Maybe I read it wrong LOL
Ian aside from the obvious shock factor of it being a white suburban dude making post Yeat/rage/opium type music
he plays into the trends of today way more than Mavi; that + he received a certain level of rapid visibility because our culture gets excited at white boy who can do the newest nigga s***
“playing the game” and mastering trends/connections rewards one better now than mastering the fundamentals and consistent good or innovative music
because in literally any other era a rapper that checks off most marks like him woulda filled in a bigger niche than what he currently has now.
He missed one: being great
Yall not telling me the era a nigga like Big Sean could blow that Smino wouldn't have blown too, nigga stop.
Smino literally sounds exactly like his contemporaries. This is why Chuck made this f***ing tweet

who does smino sound like, name em.
I dont think Kanye sounds broke on College Dropout
Its not a big topic but he makes it clear on several songs he has money already lol
How am I being insincere?
I’m not even arguing in bad faith
Rap will come to the audiences naturally. Saying if Kanye dropped CD today he’d get called broke is mad asinine. We see rappers like Smino, Saba, Kendrick, Mavi, Mike, Earl, Isaiah making vulnerable rap music to this day—do you see anyone flaming them? Do you see people calling them broke? Saying they scare the hoes is a different thing and it’s usually by ignorant people.
Ive said for years on here that Smino should be way bigger. Smino not being a top 5-10 rap act at least is a perfect example of what chuck is saying
He had melody, new innovative sound with monte, can make radio ish records, b****es like him, and can rap both in a modern way and a classic but he likely will never get above his current place and certainly has been lapped by people like f***in ken carson destroy lonely and yeat lmao. Smino is the perfect example of the type of dude chuck would be talking about altough i dont think he’s ever made a college dropout level project he still should receive more attention and “standing” in the rap game
EarthGang
0 Fatigue
narrative voice: He would eventually realize that Smino actually is the leader of Zero Fatigue
Also I'm from Atlanta, Johnny Venus (cause I know you not saying Doctur Dot sounds like Smino) didnt even sound like that when they was first blowing up.

Yet he still sounds like his contemporaries
@vicesvotive and @mets being so insincere yall gotta be white lol.
Like nigga I been to Young World in Herbert Von King Park. Weight of the world is one of my fav albums ever.
Now why has it been popularized phrase that introspective niggas like THEM "scare the hoes" so big that earl had to make a (hilarious) compliment about it live on stage during one of his shows?
Especially when "scaring the hoes" wasn't even a phrase back in the 2000s because 1. social media aint create this "dumb bet nigga illusion" that women are a monolith and 2. the finest hoes was always at the mos def/dead prez type of shows anyways...
The sentiment existed even back in the 90s. OutKast had a whole skit about it on auquemini
Yet he still sounds like his contemporaries
Unless you’re saying Smino pioneered that sound?

To be frank with you you could make the exact same argument about Isaiah Rashad but unfortunately these rappers are just good. They’re not great
Yet he still sounds like his contemporaries
how lol. He dont sound nothing like Earthgang, Johnny Venus favors more Love Below-Andre nigga there's been threads on this lol.
and bro does not sound like jay2 or bari (or whatever his name is) so once again you just posting nonsense.
Who’s the last mainstream backpack rapper we had?
Chance maybe? Maaaybe lol

Yeah sure Smino sounds nothing like his frequent collaborators lmaooo
I’m aware of the cool kids, Im saying this is evidently a “where’s ja” moment
Who the f*** cares what Chuck Inglish has to say about the specific instance. I don’t even know why I’m in this thread, but we know it’s not true. There’s tons of introspective and socially conscious rap out there, even in the mainstream (Kendrick)
Kendrick’s foundation was laid almost 15 years ago. I can’t think of a single 2020s rapper that could come out in the same way and have the same effect. Charisma or not, they didn’t have quote tweets when Kanye came out and that’s the sad reaity

This is true i listen to freshman adjustments a lot and he definitely played into the Roc aesthetic of having money but theres also songs like spaceships or “you dont wanna be broke when you 31” “you gotta do something man yo ass is grown”

“They Didn’t Have Quote Tweets When Kanye Came Out” is a f***ing gem nigga
The sentiment existed even back in the 90s. OutKast had a whole skit about it on auquemini
because the mid-late 90s was seen as the turning point (hence why @Brave "pac" point can be seen as problematic)
it's been a slow decline dawg them crackas had to work hard!
Now everybody making Pimp Trick Gangsta Clique albums and Andre being a "sonic displayist" cause it's no inspiration in rap
Idk man a lot of college dropout talks about not f***ing with school and not working at the gap
Still very relatable
Hmmm there's a big difference between drop out of college I'm hungry energy VS I'm a trapper and I make bands outside of school.
Capitalism and social media made the first one corny and lame
