4:44 was a better album than damn by a long shot
that was like his 13th album bro of course it’s gonna be better than someone’s 4th album
Talk to me in 2035, any discussion prior is premature and an insult to Hov’s longevity in hip-hop.
Kendrick, in the grand scheme of things, is still very young in the game.
Artists like Jay, Dre, and Diddy have been in the game and are still relavant 25+, 30+, and 35+ years in.
Hov overall has covered more grounds than Kendrick. I'm not even a huge Hov stan but comparing Hov and Kendrick is almost like comparing Lebron James with Klay Thompson.
Klay is a much better offensive shooter than Bron but Bron is the overall better and more well rounded player.
Jay-Z has more quotables that we still use today. Has a decent mix of street songs, love songs, club songs, pop songs, and introspective songs that still get play today. Influenced way more people. Put on way more people in the game. And he's lasted so long and transcended so many generations that a Hov verse in a Pusha T song in 2022 broke the Internet and had people trying to dissect and break it down. Hov can be alien-like when it comes to wordplay and double entendres even despite rapping off the dome.
Kendrick has no misses discography wise but he hasn't covered as much ground as Hov.
It all boils down to preference though. Kendrick's in my top 10. Hov is number 5 for me after Wayne, Nas, Pac, and Biggie.
But I would like to see how well Kendrick does this decade for this comparison to make more sense with regards to longevity.
yes.
Truth is: Hov has touched the culture for more than having timeless projects. Y’all can bring up critical acclaim or awards all you’d like but Hov’s status isn’t limited to that. Not many rappers have more songs or quotables to bring the culture together and stand as landmarks of the entire genre of hiphop
So as much of a GOAT as Kenny is, with his own stamp on the game - including a few things Hov didn’t do - the answer is a resounding
HOV doesn't have an album better than GKMC or TPAB
4:44 really saved Hov's stans
hov legacy already solidified by then. didn’t go MIA for 5 years in his prime

he doesn’t have an album better you’re right. he has several albums better not just one

Exactly, and that hiatus will damage Kendrick’s longterm impact. It’s why, in my opinion, artists like Drake and Future are miles past Kendrick now. When they were at their peak, they just kept pushing, like Hov did.

what kinda reasoning is this lol
HOV doesn't have an album better than GKMC or TPAB
Listen to this 50 times in a row and tell me you really believe that statement

hov dropped every year from 1996-2003 thats insane to me. kanye was producing and dropping his own music quite consistently from 2004-2016. i can’t think of a legendary rapper who went missing for 5 years in their prime right after their first solo number one
that was like his 13th album bro of course it’s gonna be better than someone’s 4th album
That makes zero sense usually it’s the first album that’s the best with most rappers. By 13 they’re usually washed

makes no sense when kendrick is meant to be in his prime around the same age hov was dropping his best work
