Hip Hop culture barely even cites these as important in their lives..

    Nobody brings this up..

People more likely to bring up 2001 by Dre

    Everyone brings these up lmao

Em is a more relevant and impactful artist since well forever

Let's look at what Thriller is before asking this:

    • damn near every song is a classic hit, emphasis on classic
    • the entire era broke barriers in music and pop culture
    • Michael's starpower and icon status was cemented
    • brought together every person of every age and every race
    • crazy acclaim and chart dominance

...then ask yourself if any hip-hop album does all of this (or any album in general)

    Invasion of privacy

and the only acceptable answer is Tha Carter III

I’m not even a drake fan. But that album went over 5x plat and had hits on top of hits and changed the sound of rap. All these wanna be singer rappers who can’t hold a tune or spit exist because of that album.

Wanna be singer rappers exist because of Cudi and Wayne..

Drake was either really singing or really rapping...

Yall be makin some lazy comparisons man

  • Jan 6, 2020

I don’t think there is an ideal comparison but my money would be on GRODT. Both albums with multiple massive hits which put each respective artist at the top of the world for a moment in time. Legendary albums that will never be forgotten in each genre.

Still convinced that it's Illmatic and you guys didn't do much to change my mind. The hip hop Thriller doesn't have to be poppy.. instead it features the best MC there ever was at the top of his game, it has the same amount of songs as Thriller and every song is huge and perfect, the cover art is iconic, the influence is there as well ofc.

It has to have heavy commercial appeal man... that aint it

  • Jan 6, 2020

Do yall know what "damn near every song is a classic hit" means with thriller...I'm not talking about that exaggerated "it has 2 or 3 classic hits which means damn near every song is a classic hit" s*** people do with big albums

There's 9 songs and 6 of them are classic hits. That's almost 70% of the album

Yall know goddamn well ain't no hip-hop album got classic hits throughout 70% of it

  • Jan 6, 2020

Just saw the full cover wit the baby tiger on his leg....

    Talkin bout a hard drip

    All time glow right there

Nah, hip hop is different than pop.. pretty much every hip hop fan swears by Illmatic and knows the lyrics to every song and it's a more respectable album than pretty much everything you guys brought up.

That's the biggest dynamic of Thriller is its commercial and pop dominance.
