I would vote for trump this election if he earned it, he has to do some crazy ass move that makes him look good like legalize marijuana state wide and expunge criminal records from marijuana, he most likely won’t but he needs to make a chess like move, until then my vote is going to Kanye because I know Trump will win without my vote, and if Biden wins I won’t care at all because he’s honestly just a democratic Trump who differs in some categories but will act like Trump when he’s finally in office, he won’t do s*** just like his buddy Obama

its really not that hard or mystified/obscured to understand why people still support trump. and i dont mean weird internet stuff or trolls. i mean people in small towns in middle america. if you understand why rhetoric from people like Tucker Carlson appeals to people than you can understand why Trump is appealing. people deflect it to being about racism or something but it really has nothing to do with that

So you think when Tucker and Trump say racist s*** it's just for fun and not to appeal to a certain base or..?

my point isnt that hes going to do anything positive, but he is going to act in a much different way to trump. surely you can see that trumps behavior and style is pretty unique even compared to other possible republicans?

do you think the vast majority of people are voting for him because of innate racism solely

I mean I’m not really tripping because he’s not gunna get in, this is just my theory on if he does, and if he does we should come back to this thread in like 2 years to compare

Not what I said but you said that people who point out the role of racism are merely deflecting

my point had nothing to do with them not saying racist stuff. my point was that people aren't voting for them simply because they're racist. if you disagree with that, you have to be implying the only reason people are voting for them is because they're racist. for a very small sect of people, yeah, i'm sure that's true. probably an incredibly small minority. people all too often say things like "carlson is popular because he is racist" or "trump won because of racism". that very clearly isn't true; them doing racist things is the cause of them being popular. if it was, why would GOP members who literally are openly racist, not just "dog-whistling" not be more popular?
people like to think racism is the sole cause of popularity and not that racism is easier to facilitate through the package of populism - even if it's faux-populistic (in the case of Trump). Middle America is gone; it's f***ing decimated. there is nothing left culturally, economically, anything. if you can't understand why people disenfranchised and disconnected from the world socially and culturally living in decimated d*** addled communities with no future and no chance of economic resurrection would be appealed to by populist rhetoric I don't really know what to tell you. racism uses populism as a vehicle, not vice-versa.

The country is surely more divided but I do not believe half the voting population will be voting based on “Trump also doesnt like (enter whatever group/person/object here)”

It’s also a little hypocritical when the sole argument for Biden is “He’s not Trump”

Peope will vote for trump because he’s not Biden

People will vote for Biden because he’s not trump

Any Democrat could go up against Trump and Trump voters would vote for him. He has been the president for the last 4 years. Literally not a single candidate was even temporarily discussed to challenge Trump from the Republican party.

Biden, on the other hand, is the nominee solely because the DNC knew that a good amount of Democrats would vote for Trump is Bernie was the nominee (which he should’ve been). If Bernie didn’t run this year Biden would not be the nominee.

Republicans just don’t wanna let Trump go and Democrats wanna take him out no matter who they can replace him with. As we’ve seen they cheated a perfectly viable candidate for a literal robot. Just for the sake of getting Trump out.

This is worst than 2016 holy s***

A lot over these past few months. I’ve been trying to understand the far-right media so I’ve watched a lot of Fox News and even some Breitbart

if you genuinely think this you're proving my point. i'm not supporting these people - you can check my thread history to see i have posts criticizing Carlson and calling out his rhetoric. however if you fail to see how certain rhetoric becomes a vehicle for racism without the holistic rhetoric being racist i genuinely do not know what to tell you. there's a reason poor middle american people love this stuff so much and it's not because they want to return to segregation era no matter what is over-represented on social media

Good s*** bro that’s great. I been doing the same towards things I generally dismissed and disagreed with in the past.

I would say that while a portion of Tucker’s audience is most definitely racist, thus him having to cater to their needs as a customer, I’ve never come across any writing or footage of him saying anything particularly racist or even having a racial undertone. Tucker is definitely guilty of patronizing Black people for the benefit of his agenda, but I genuinely have never heard a single piece from him that has set off any racist alarms. That also may be because his show’s format is very short, but from all his extensive interviews and debates that I’ve watched I’ve never heard anything racially charged. When it comes to crime, d****, immigration. Maybe in his past he’s said things I don’t know about but this idea that Tucker Carlson is the person on Fox rounding up the white nationalists is a little ridiculous to me.

The infamous “we need to preserve our culture” clip that went viral on Twitter I think was a stretch too. Tucker has never even suggested that he supports anything close to segregationist policy. He has been vocally opposed to mass immigration which I think is f***ed up, but also not a conversation I’m willing to entirely dismiss.

Many Trump voters have voted Republican their entire lives and aren't about to turn back now. It's like supporting a team that's been letting you down for your entire life but you feel like a traitor for wanting to abandon them after several particularly bad seasons. This may sound like a laughable simplification, but many people really do not think about politics much more deeply than that.
