if you're at a point in life where you're lost, entering the military on a skilled engagement (NOT infantry or combat-facing), getting your benefits, then dipping as soon as your contract expires, you can end up on a decent footing.

He gets:

• free/reduced tuition
• monthly stipend
• housing benefits (i forgot the details but they help him find and pay for an apartment within certain parameters)

It's a kneejerk reaction imo. I absolutely 100% understand not joining due to not wanting to contribute to American imperialism (it's why I won't join) or wanting to serve a country that does not care for you.

But I'm not gonna sit on a pedestal and shame working class people who need food, shelter, and something to guide them into a better life. To me, it just smells a little of privilege. Especially when most of the jobs in the military will never see combat when you join branches like the Air Force or Navy.

I come from an affluent background tho and still joined. I’m on the officer side of things though.

My way of thinking is taking what my parents leave me, take advantage of the benefits the army offers, stack money and build my own

This is also why I don't support the military institution. Recruiters don't care for your actual wellbeing, they'll place you in an awful infantryman role and leave you to dust faster than you can take a breath. And that can seriously f*** up your life.

This is doubled for schools in lower income neighborhoods.
