Americans benefitted from video games being overpriced in the 80s or whenever they first reached $60. It couldn't increase with inflation rates, so you guys were paying that same price for over 3 decades
Had video games actually been reasonably priced back then, there probably would've been more incremental price increases over time and games would be $100 today without this much of an outcry
What is reasonable price for a video game? What is a reasonable price for 30+ hours of entertainment, sometimes 100+?
Yep. They already announced and showed they are variably pricing their games
$80 for tentpole titles (Mario kart, 3d Mario, new zelda probably)
$70 for else (DK bananza)
$10 Nintendo switch welcome tour
paying $10 for nintendo switch welcome tour should put you on a list
at least you still own that s***. mfs paying $11 / month every single month to own none of their music
great example! GTA V released in September 2013 at $60. for the U.S., adjusting that out to today's dollars with inflation (which exists btw) would be $82.37
is there a law that game prices must grow 1:1 with inflation or something
why are yall so worried about it
Variable pricing has been a thing for all three hardware platforms for a long time. Astro Bot wasn't full price.
also true

well "owning" on the switch 2 is questionable

lol
You'll drop $100+ for a concert. I want everything as cheap as possible but this convo is never consistent with other artforms.

inflation changes the value of each dollar, so my point is it is not at all surprising or unexpected that game prices would rise in line with inflation. if you reference my post from the first page we actually are ironically getting a deal vs. when we paid $60 in 2005. if they actually matched 1:1 with inflation we'd be paying $100

This why I don't fw PS+ and avoid buying off the PS Store as far as I can
Doesn't sit well with me that I can only "own" and play games as long as I have a membership/internet connection
If I paid for something, I want to own that s***.

how are we getting a deal when they are still monetizing literally every possible aspect of the gaming experience
or when our earning power hasnt grown 1:1 with inflation
or we get sold a incomplete package at full price and have to wait for 8 updates to get what we were marketed
or when they were already profitable at the previous price point and the only reason they are raising money is to be even more profitable
I’ve been digital only since 2013 and haven’t had a single issue and have access to all my games I ever bought

Why are we worried about inflation in a discussion about the increase in price of a product

ahhhh see you're not wrong but you're expanding the scope of the argument. it IS f***ed up that we (as a collective) don't earn 2x more vs. 2005 while the value of the dollar has nearly halved. but that's not Nintendo's fault, they're not the ones dishing out your salary... (maybe brings up a good question of how much nintendo employee wages have risen since 2005)
if nintendo's costs have increased 33% since 2005, why would they not increase the cost of the game 33% to maintain their margins? they are a COMPANY, not your friend and not a non-profit
also in this particular example it's not like MKW is incomplete or ridden with micro-transactions and bs like that to unlock the full experience of the game
Why are we worried about inflation in a discussion about the increase in price of a product
are you Jerome Powell bro?
we are the f***ing consumers in this scenario, why are we championing anti-consumer practices
