To play the emaciated insomniac Trevor Reznik in 2004's The Machinist, Bale lost around 60 pounds in just four months, bringing his total weight down to 120 pounds at the start of filming. Bale reportedly stuck to a diet of "water, an apple, and one cup of coffee per day," to lose weight
He also ate a can a tuna and smoked cigs according to other sources
Didnt he almost die?
No
He wouldve died if he dropped another 20 which he wanted to do before the studio convinced him not to
Was just about to do a lil 3 day water fast. I might actually try this though for a week and see what happens lol
I’d say if you wanna try fasting, look into intermittent fasting and not this over the top s***

I'm naive as f*** but if I'm already happy with my body/weight and energy is there any reason to even fast

Basically you cycle between eating & fasting within certain time periods.
For example, you could fast for 16 hours & have an 8 hour window for eating all of your meals. There's a few ways you could do it, but the end result is the same & there are a ton of benefits.
Here's some more details about it:

i love when people complain that it's unfair that women have to lose weight to play roles, then someone almost always posts Bale
that's some horrible advice there
if you wanna try fasting, then start off with a easy 16-8 routine and make sure to each as much calories during that 8 hour period as you usually did throughout the days before
I’ve had days where I was on this same diet
Not purposely but I only take an apple to lunch with me and have a cup of coffee for breakfast
