This case was awesome in the first place for the ideological mix-ups it causes, then I read that he claimed he had the gun for self-defense and property defense during the 2020 BLM protests, which is just the cherry on top because the responses should flip again, back to the assumed stances in a “gun rights” trial, but for a different reason

Repubs hate illegals. Dems love immigration rights.
Repubs love guns. Dems don't want more guns.
Repubs hate BLM and minorities. Dems love BLM and minorities.
Defendant is gun owning, an illegal immigrant, and he hates BLM.
Repubs should side with this

Why would they side with him if they don’t like illegals?
Shut up
Illinois has some of the strictest gun laws in the country.
Someone who is both over here illegally and obtained a fire arm illegally should not be able to have an easier time getting a gun than a citizen
Republicans are against it because the person isnt a US citizen (fair) and the judge who made the ruling was appointed by Obama.
Democrats look hypocritical as f*** imo because they are always claiming that they are for gun control and regulation yet its easier for a non citizen to get a gun than a citizen
Lmao
Lmao
I lean left but come on man. You can’t see the hypocrisy in this?
The constitution doesn’t say it only applies to US citizens
Would we rather the constitution apply to US citizens, all who reside in US territory, or both?

It’s not harder to get a gun as a citizen vs as an undocumented immigrant
You still need all the same paperwork
If anything it’ll be harder to keep a gun on you as an undocumented person, because you do one thing wrong and that gun charge is a ticket home
I wholeheartedly support this
Personal self-defense and the right to bear arms should apply to everyone on "American soil" regardless of citizenship
It’s not harder to get a gun as a citizen vs as an undocumented immigrant
You still need all the same paperwork
He broke the law twice. Coming over here illegally and then having the gun illegally.
If I have an unregistered gun in Illinois I’m doing a bid

Here is the ruling @op

this court case is about undocumented immigrants having the right to firearms, not whether or not this guy should be deported

An illegal immigrant isn’t qualified to own a gun in Illinois. What paperwork do they need?

the guy was charged for "being an undocumented citizen with a gun," not "breaking illinois gun laws"
To legally possess firearms or ammunition, Illinois residents must have a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card, which is issued by the Illinois State Police on a shall-issue basis. Non-residents who may legally possess firearms in their home state are exempt from this requirement.

Yeah I agree I just find it amusing how there’s so many layers

They shouldn’t have the right to carry guns. Especially when they have to go through illegal means to obtain the gun.
The simple act of the dude having the gun meant he broke the law.

the judge ruled that he didnt break the law, so you're wrong
i hate this country's legal system
but you all want to defend the s***ty old constitution so bad so let's play by its rules

People really think every single undocumented immigrant hopped the border when in reality most of them just have expired work visas lmao
