If you have an iPhone this is what I did.

First and foremost: put your phone on Do Not Disturb, this’ll limit notifications popping up and also get rid of the vibrate and the ding if you have your ringer on.

Next: Set app limits on all the apps you you use the most. For me I was spending 2 hours on Twitter and 1 hour on Instagram daily. I set my Twitter limit to 50 minutes and my Instagram limit to 30 minutes. Yes it is very easy to bypass the lock once the app is locked but the point is discipline, personally I just got fed up seeing my app locked and just would do something else.

Next: Put the screen time widget on your home page so you can be painfully aware of how much time you’ve been on your phone every time you turn it on, I promise this’ll have you feeling guilty when it’s only noon and you’ve already been on it for 3 hours.

I wake up around 8/9 and instead of getting out of bed asap I scroll through my phone for like 20 min then I take my laptop and continue on to KTT, YouTube, Twitter whatever

And that's either till 9:30 on a day I have classes or 10:15 on free days

During the day I have moments where I just lay on my bad and mindlessly scroll twitter, IG, KTT

Before going to bed same thing
30 min of scrolling till I feel like I have enough and I go to sleep

WTF do I do?? I hate it

    edit:

phone stats since making this thread

Welcome to everyone on planet who has phone with internet. You thought you were going to what? Defeat the screens? 😳

Get a used Kindle from eBay like 40 bucks, an older one. Idk about iphone but on android you can download torrent apps like Flud. Search for your book on libgen and torrent it. If it's not a .mobi file then get a file conversion app. Convert that s***, then email it to your Kindle address. In a minute you'll have a whole book on the Kindle for free. I spent like 40 on my Kindle a year ago and have downloaded like 100 books for free since then. It's really the way to go.

That's what I'm planning to do

I've been on a libgen wave for a while s*** is scary useful

I've thought about it before. If you're really serious would you consider downgrading to a s***ty phone? Like a blackberry.

Just turn the screen off 😂😂

Also if you got someone you trust, a girl, a homie, heck even a close internet friend, download BlockerX and block all kinds of s*** from your phone with them as your accountability partner. You can even give the app admin permissions so you can't uninstall it without permission from them. You can set strict timers on how long you can use an app too. Ppl usually use it to block p*** but you can block anything with it.

Seems a bit too extreme but who knows maybe for someone itt I'll be okay

I'll start by changing my morning and right-before-bed routine bc I just have to push myself out of bad instead of wasting time on purpose

Overall the phone is only a problem in the mornings and maybe when I have a slow boring day

When I'm out with someone I can easily put the phone in my backpack and chill. And I expect people I'm with to do the same when I'm with them tbh. I hate people being mentally somewhere else when I'm with them

So I don't think I'm at a point of looking for things like that

    But thanks nonetheless

From time to time I change my launcher to this "essential launcher" or whatever (I'm on android) and I can limit my phone to like 5 or so essential apps

I considered downgrading but I think it's more about discipline

Like... I couldn't go a day without Spotify on my phone. Without Bluetooth to connect my headphones. You know?

I think it needs more of a mental change than physically limiting myself

I need to find something better to do in that time instead of just getting rid of my phone and leaving a void

Did exactly that right after I made this thread

One more thing is I put greyscale mode on a shortcut when I press volume up + power btn

When I feel like the phone is taking over I'll put the greyscale on

You're right tbh. How one can hit that level of self control is the question though haha

It’s only an issue for me when I’m trying to go to sleep, I’ll feel tired but then I’ll check a few websites and before I know it I’ve lost an hour

My phone addiction is through the roof
    My screen time is crazy

    WeDontGetAlong

im on the internet 90% of my day because ig im addicted but also the world is so boring and i dont rlly have real friends anymore to talk to so i talk to people on here and make internet friends

i honestly dont have a problem w it tho im chilling

Tbh same , but I've been limiting time on screens. I go do productive s*** when I have free time.

  • Jan 3, 2021

Idk why the emojis in the thread title have me dead

  • Jan 3, 2021

Honestly i have tried every trick in the book with limiting myself using tools provided with or accessible by your phone, but the best success i have found has come from willpower

Putting your phone on downtime or restricting certain websites means nothing if you dont respect it, and if you can respect those rules why not skip that whole process because you proved you don't need it. Thats how i see it at least as a phone addict

  • Jan 3, 2021

Decreasing my screen time I never actually thought of that. What I did was really minimise how I use social media to see if my productivity increases but I still spend alot of time on my phone and then there's my console. And tbh even if I reduce my screen time what the hell am I going to be doing when I'm not on my screen?? I'd just be in a constant state of boredom and talking to myself.
