Teenage Dream is the best album you’ve reviewed so far tbh

I didn't try to hate on Katy Perry but it really is a lot of bad songs on there

    It's not all Firework level

Day 4: Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday

A lot of surprises especially on the first half. First let me say this is the most 2010 album so far, in a good way. Production is f***ing bonkers and so overproduced. In some songs it really works and some it doesn't.

The songs that work best for me are the ones when she brings out the most energy and personality. A great highlight is Your Love. Probably the one I bumped the most at the time.

The rap songs that start off the album Roman's Revenge and Did It On'em (all these b****es is my sons!!) have nice rapping from Nicki with a lot of energy even going back to back with Eminem on the former. That being said it feels like too little as the rest of the album is all pop rap.

I like her singing voice on songs like Save Me. I like the combination of rapping verses and a catchy pop hook on Right Thru Me and Moment 4 Life (and the Drake verse).

I think it mostly falls off on the second half where Check It Out is a divisive song (it's either bad or lowkey birthed hyper pop but that's a diff discussion). Most of the others are just pretty safe and forgettable and didn't stand out much.

In my opinion this album is a little like TML but TML has the edge over it because of the more emotional and personal songs.

Nicki's strength in my opinion is opposite. Being extra and bringing her personality and energy out is her strength, and those quotables. Which is why in my opinion this album had the potential to be better and instead played it safe in a lot of moments and didn't have a clear vision.

P.S. I didn't include the deluxe. I actually think it's all pretty bad except for Super Bass and Girls fall like dominoes.

Day 5: Rick Ross - Teflon Don

I'm not a star I got a chopper in the car!!

So this album has 2 major sounds. One is those early 2010s Lex Luger trap songs, out of which the hardest here is I'm Not a Star which just has the quotables and has the attitude to make it a good intro for this album.

The second is the luxurious, cinematic, triumphant sound that you get for most of the album. At its best, with major highlights like Live Fast & Die Young, Aston Martin Music, Free Mason, All the money in the world, you're like:

Just makes you feel like you're on top of the world, beautiful production, Rick Ross and the features just killing it (even though it's missing the Drake verse!!) and they're just long and immersive and def put you in the luxurious mood.

However listening to this for a full album made me a little overwhelmed especially at the songs with R&B singers. I understand why we moved from that sound a little (or elevated it a bit like Griselda).

While it has more heart and vision than any DJ Khaled album, at its core this is what it is. An album about money, crime, fancy cars, watches, materialism. For an album about these themes this is the best it can be. But I can't consider it a great album truly. I think for what it is this is a perfectly good album.

Does Rick Ross go hard? Yes, does the production go hard? definitely, does this album deliver what it promises? for sure. It's not really about the substance or the artistry, it's mostly just to put you in that Las Vegas mood. Make you feel like a VIP for an hour and make your honda civic feel like a maybach.

Btw "I'm riding dirty, my d*** clean" is funny af

    Day 6: MGMT - Congratulations

Wow guys this is a great one.

If you're reading this and haven't listened to this album do yourself a favor and listen to "Siberian Breaks" a beautiful 12 minute piece and the centerpiece of this album, it's essentially progressive rock and a song that progresses and changes throughout, this song alone made me realize I'm listening to something great. Please listen to this!

As for the rest of the album I might need to listen a few more times to really digest it and take it all in but let me say I really appreciate the melodies and compositions and it just feels very psychadelic and atmospheric. This is a first listen to me as I only listened to their 2 more popular albums. This doesn't have many hits except for the self titled "Congratulations" which ends the album nicely, but it's more expansive than the other two and just blew me away.

My other highlights are It's Working, Something Missing and Brian Eno but really this whole album is worth a listen and might just be some of the best indie rock music I've ever heard. I think it aged well and still symbolizes that era of indie rock which was also a little overproduced like everything from this year so far, but really wanted to impress you and be over the top and theatrical, unlike modern indie pop where it's more chill and gentle. I'm not saying one is better than the other but MGMT nailed this sound and I'll be praising this album from now on.

    Definitely my favorite so far!
