    SOULJA BOY TELL'EM - SOULJABOYTELLEM.COM

"Don't be mad cause the kids like me"

This album and the controversy surrounding it is around its mega hit "Crank That", this is basically the first viral hit ever as it blew a rapper to stardom and getting a major label deal just off of fans sharing it online and bringing it into real life.

It shocked people so much because at the time, it was somewhat against the values of hip hop, simplified, repetitive party music. Even mainstream rappers at the time had to have subject matter and rapping ability to gain a fanbase and even get themselves a debut album. Sure there were some bad albums but they weren't a huge success like this.

It's also important to point out the hate surrounding it might've had to do with ppl hating on snap/crunk music in general.

So is the album good? Is it a misunderstood classic? Not really. Except for the hits, the album is basically "Crank That" stretched to album length. With multiple songs even sampling or reusing lines from "Crank That" as hooks. "Crank That" was made on Garage Band so the other beats have to be (and half of them are ass).

There is no deeper meaning or theme to the lyrics whatsoever, it's just "I'm cool, I have style, deal with it". I think in today's standards for hip hop the lyrics sound better but the beats sound worse. I would describe the music as stupid. But it's fun. I think it's a fun guilty pleasure but not something I could consider good music. I don't think it would make people that mad today but it deserves respect for "ruining hip hop" just for being different.

Best: Crank That, Yahhh!, Report Card, Don't Get Mad.

Worst: Snap and Roll, Donk, Soulja Girl.

    FUN BAD/10

TOM MACDONALD & ADAM CALHOUN - THE BRAVE

"Better watch your back, it's a white boy summer" (first lyric in the album).

I'm listening to this album with tears in my eyes. This is the lamest piece of s*** I've ever laid my ears on. It's a gift that keeps on giving -- you think you're just heard the worst song, you think you've heard the lamest bar, you think you've heard the corniest hook, you think you've heard the worst alt right message -- you haven't. It just keeps on coming.

Tom MacDonald is a delusional persona. White guy making hip hop about alt-right conspiracies, making fun of Hollywood and mainstream media, while larping as a soundcloud rapper and making the most generic mainstream sounding music in existence. His idea of rebellious music sounds like Fast & Furious soundtrack music or sappy "inspirational' songs with pop hooks. And some of these songs are dead serious and include stories from his life. So are you genuinely making rap music or not?

Just the corniest safest s*** pandering to internet alt righters and evangelists. If you're mid at what you do, you can always become an "alt right" activist and get success. Tom is trying to do that while rapping. Just rap about anti-vax and loving Jesus and it doesn't matter how mid you are. If someone irl tells you they like Tom MacDonald, you can safely assume that person is an idiot.

As for Adam Calhoun he's just a generic rapper who is Tom MacDonald's friend. He's not as shock value as Tom and just occasionally agrees with him and drops a corny bar.

Overall I'd recommend this album to anyone who hates "woke people" or themselves and just want to ruin their own day, but not to anyone with a functional frontal lobe.

    Best: Whiteboyz.

Worst: New World Order, Soldier, Free World, In God We Trust.

ngl i think this subgenre almost shouldnt be included in the worst category, it should be its own thing. like i hate how every single worst album of the year list is just a bunch of tom macdonald and that white dude with dreads songs. like i get it theyre trumpoid eminem impersonators, its almost too obvious to laugh at

Yeah, it’s obviously going to be bad it’s like putting an alt right movie in the worst movie list. Still I had to experience what this kind of album sounds like (sounds awful).

In a 2007 interview, when asked about what message does he hope to deliver with the album, Soulja Boy said: "I’m trying to tell the people to look out for me—I’m the next generation of hip-hop, it’s a movement what I’m startin’ right now. The album is gonna be crazy—it covers every base of good music: hip-hop, R&B, it’s got humor on there. It’s a very powerful album. And what I’m telling you—you have to listen. When you pay attention to what I’m saying and my lyrics, the things that I do, the trends that I set, the following that I have… it’s like, “Damn,” it gonna be crazy." He also talked about the criticism towards his music, responding to claims that he was "ruining hip-hop": "My defense, I say, they’re probably used to hearing a type of music, and it’s different from mine, and they’re brought up, and they’ve listened to this type of music for so long, and when they hear something like a Soulja Boy, they scared, and they like, “What is this? This is so different!” But so many people like it, so they don’t get it. It really confuses them. They automatically on the defense, they attack. They like, “This is not hip-hop, and this is not what I’m used to listening to.” But it’s so different, and so many people are listenin’ to it."
