  • Just talked to a recruiter these benefits sound amazing. I think I’m about to do active duty. It’s gonna hurt having to cut my dreads tho. It’s gonna hurt a lot. 🤕🤕🤕

It's awful and you should do something else.

What "benefits" are worth your dignity and self respect?

The fact that everyone here thinks that the only thing you do in the army is shoot people shows that you guys aren’t as smart as you think you are. I’m going to basic training then I’m getting a job. I’m not going to Iraq.

Maybe you are but most people aren’t. Everyone on this site thinks they know everything. “It’s a trap man”. Yea it’s a trap that gives me free college, free housing, free food, free healthcare, and potentially $50,000 a year (in cash and benefits) as a teenager.

And idk which job yet I’m still trying to decide.

Yeah but it’s a depressing ass life trust me

And going to college as a freshman at 22 just seems really depressing

I don’t give a f*** about how old I am when I go to college. You’re there to get an education. You know what’s depressing? Being in debt at 22.

can be a W or an L tbh

if u show up with the maturity expected of a 22 y.o college student (as in, typically a senior), you'd prolly gain respect p quickly among peers

the thing is probably that a military life may preclude you from many life experiences that college students have that otherwise help mature them (it is a mini-society, after all), which i think is why most 22 y.o. freshmen military ppl i ran into at my college (granted, only like 6 ppl total) were kinda awkward/out of touch with both their 22 y.o. cohorts and their freshmen cohorts

Lol what part of the recruiting process takes away your dignity and self-respect? The last I checked the only one who can take those away is God.
