I don't think the corporate oligarchs that really run this country would let a literal fascist takeover with far right/neo-nazi ideology take place. They'll turn this b**** into China (in regards to censorship) before that happens.

Far-right ideology in America makes so much money and benefits politicians... that corporations are willing to let s*** slide, fester, grow and politicians pander and use that base for votes.

It also doesn't help that neoliberalism and neoconservatism doesn't help but make conditions ripe for this type of ideology to rise.

Anything is possible, but what I mostly see are death throes of an archaic way of thinking.

I dont understand what this even means

Their fine with the far right growing, but they dont want it to takeover?

how does far right ideology make money & benefit politicians? where is the money to be made?

I'm saying they aren't fine with it growing out of control, which is what we saw come to fruition with the events at The Capitol. There becomes a breaking point. They aren't fine with it disrupting or coming close to disrupting the status quo.

And far right ideology makes tons of money on the internet and in media. Right wing political commentators and websites generate tons of traffic and money. Many politicians will pander to these groups for votes but never go "full blown neo-nazi fascist" but will resort to dog whistle language and talking points that speak to the crazy far right types.

How do we stop these politicians from doing dog whistles and appealing to them?

You can't. You just have to create a society where that type of s*** doesn't work. How we get there will vary in opinion. Obviously the higher ups seem to have chosen to try crush the spread of dangerous far-right ideology via targeted censorship. How effective will this be in regards to the future? Who knows...

Tech companies are to blame, not for banning conservatives, but for allowing people to be taken into cults of personality, and to perpetuate alternate realities. These boomers are roaming the internet looking for pro trump material, they don't know a thing about fact checking, or rather just choose not to

More like social media has exposed people’s repressed fascism

america has so many issues a country built on the blood of natives by white supremacists.

like people have mentioned in this thread the issue of social media isn't being taken seriously enough imagine how things will be in ten years time with better tech fake tweets will be a thing for the history books when extremists can create 8K deepfakes on their phones.

i think things are going to get worse before they get better, sadly.

the US hasn't been a democracy for decades, and I don't mean that in the typical way the phrase is thrown around.
yes i realize things are extra scary now on a civilian level and accelerated societally which is very discomforting but these types of people play very little role in that; at the end of the day as you said yourself these people are grifters.
this largely isn't an issue which can be solved politically and the current direction over the past few decades in which it's been attempted to mitigate these issues with has empirically made everything worse and its only going to get worse so long as that trajectory continues.

    Be cautious but not afraid.

    And pay attention.

    that's all we can do

I feel u though OP best we can do is stay informed, but not over-informed on every bad thing that happened in one day at once to where we feel like its the end lol

Gotta focus on what has to be done immediately to help people
    i.e. healthcare, stimulus checks

Increased corporate control of literally everything, extreme cultural nihilism and overall cultural self-destruction, increasingly balkanized US sociocultural identities with no mitigation, further corruption of the elite/leadership socioeconomic class with 0 consequences, austerity politics shielded by meaningless illusory social politics that cloud out crushing debt corporate overreach and insane d*** crises, complete institutional homogenization across sectors, slow but steady breach on civil liberties over multiple decades which is only increasing, environmental disasters, corporate adoption of hollow social politics which is actively cheered on by misguided people incorrectly, slow creep of the power and influence of banks and the financial sector, flailing economic market propped up by absolute bs which doesn't actually reflect real economic conditions,
i can keep going. Many of these things are not simply political in nature but cultural or systematic and have lineages going back years if not decades.
