I honestly don’t think there are THAT many

Largely if you make music on that sort of level you get attention you get signed you get pushed

There's fasho a homeless guy, or someone in jail whos a better athlete than Lebron. You never know

Yea but better in terms of potential not actually better lmaooo

Obviously there are fantastic potential rappers but in terms of who’s making the best finished products nah

Maybe physically (genetic potential) but without the work ethic and expensive training and diet, I don’t see how.

If all you focused on was lyricism, you could find better artists on Bandcamp than on Billboards.

It’s categorically false to think there’s a currently undiscovered player who right now could join an NBA team and immediately be better than Lebron

Agreed. They missed their window of opportunity if they are not already somewhat on that level.

Let’s take a posit: if you gave Chloe Hotline Drake’s team, is she making music as good as Drake?

    No
Theoretically someone out completely unknown there might be able to make drake level music in a year or so given the resources
    But not many

I think what OP means is POTENTIAL.
Like a there is no amateur better than Lebron James, but there is 100% someone who has/had the potential to be better than him.
A lot of y’all dont understand it takes a lot of luck to get to the professional leagues too. I know a lot of dudes who where at the edge of being a professional footballer, but had problems with the coach/personal problems etc. So not everyone who has the potential always gets to the top leagues.
But of course after getting to the professional leagues the talent someone has in addition the the high-expert coaching and training makes them automatically way better than someone who only has the potential.

Same with music (potential + production and marketing experts etc etc > just potential)

on the contrary... now you need money and/or connects because the competition to be heard is extremely insane. and labels don't like to invest on unknowns like they used to; you can't get signed to a major just because you make great music UNLESS you also have a big fanbase

I’m sure we’re all friends with / know some amazing rappers irl

But like you said the biggest factor in becoming successful in the music industry is just having industry connects
