You can't JUST go viral, that's the thing - doing so is like winning the lottery... Luck. It's never the MUSIC that goes viral, but the video content or (behind-the-scenes) people pushing it to make it look like it was organic.

    OUT OF ORDER

I’m sure we’re all friends with / know some amazing rappers irl

But like you said the biggest factor in becoming successful in the music industry is just having industry connects

No. It’s creating something people wanna listen to and getting out to enough or the right people

They tried to blow up kid buu for 2 years n it failed . Some might have their 15 minutes but once those are up they’re out.

    Connects are a big shortcut

whether u get them networking or being lucky doesnt matter

Its too many niggas in this game being jealous and eyeing other people instead of doing what they can to grind themselves to the top

“Getting out to enough or the right people” requires help from the industry 99.99% of the time

Kid buu didn’t blow up exactly because no one wanted to listen to his dumb ass and his label thought they could make a quick buck by pushing yet another rapper with colored dreads and face tattoos and promoting him on the instagram explore page

There’s hardly any big artists nowadays that blew up strictly independent

And not even those ppl wanna listen,u have to be lucky enough

    And thode are industry ppl

So now Imagine trying to get 1000 unknowns to listen to ur music without co sign lol

    NEW EQUITY

Not even just rappers. A whole lot of amazing musicians out there that'll never even record a song or release a demo.

S*** like that pisses me off though. If you have talent why not take a chance and put it out there? This life is too short to not give your talent a chance to shine. You never f***ing know....

    Im saying niggas should
go out there and get the damn help, get in those doors and close ro those people by any means necessary !

Theres no easy way out n too many niggas just pray it’ll fall into their lap

I know people tht for years whines about i put X amount of projects out, i was at this m that festival, no one wants to listen n this an that

One of them niggas at some point realized he’s gotta take charge and has since got a million dollar deal. All within a year of hard networking. Being at that party, with this producer, with that rapper, working your way up slowly but surely everyone started tryna ride HIS wave.

It is what it is my man. Theres no lottery ticket to stumble upon if u dont do whatever it takes to find it

The internet is too open of a market now and like someone mentioned before the music industry caught up with the internet and is in control again of what’s hot and what isn’t

yes, and most of those songs (if not 100% of them) are from artists that are already signed lol

  • May 10, 2020

This is why sales and marketing is king

  • May 10, 2020

a cultural zeitgeist occurred allowing this obscure white battle rapper to become world famous.

if he wasn't a polar bear in a forest of black bears, he would be maybe a manager of target or sales associate at best buy at best.

now he's a multi multi because dr dre discovered him

he didn't need discovering but the way the industry works, you need to know someone in charge of the labels. especially back then before soundcloud

the best you could do was maybe penetrate your city, no where possible to have mass market penetration.

Unfortunately, music is a business. Doesn’t matter how good your music is; without the right co-signs or marketing, you’re “trash” to most people. Look no further than ktt to witness this yourself
