I need you jabroni ass niggaz to tell me if this a hit or a buss

I thought it was a hit but I like movies that take risks and this is a massive one. Plebs going into this expecting Terrifier or Friday the 13th will be sorely disappointed though. It has some really fun and crazy kills but the movie is a lot more about deconstructing the genre and is downright an arthouse film for more than half its run time. It's a very ballsy approach and I think while the ending may piss people off, to me its the best ending of the year just for the fact I almost always hate how generic these slasher movie endings are and this film decides to subvert that with a far more terrifying realization while still honoring the slasher genre with the final shots.

Not surprised. This gen got brain rot and need something happening every second to stay focused.

Thoughts/interpretation of the ending? I thought it was fantastic too, a great point to end on

This was cool. They successfully played with perspective and pacing to make a traditional slasher feel fresh again. Wish we got a few more kills but the ones we did get were pretty wild.

They made some real bold choices while playing with tension, and I dunno if they fully paid off for me but I respect the ambition. Good watch overall.

    Was it scary?

Because the movie is shot from the killer’s perspective it takes away most of the element of surprise, so it isn’t particularly scary in the traditional sense. That being said there were 2 pretty intense scenes that I found disturbing.

If there's enough backstory for the villain, I can see it work

So is it actually 100% the slashers POV? Or does it sometimes change to the victims?

Yeah, they give the right amount. Actually feels like you’re watching a legacy sequel at some points.

my interpretation of it is that it gives a purpose to a lot of what you see earlier on with how Johnny interacts with the environment and those slow walking nature shots. That story is meant to tell us about the brutality of nature and how there is no rhyme or reason to it. And the ultimate double take shot of the girl thinking she saw the killer as that woman is tending to her wounds and then we see the last shot which is just nature itself is meant to serve that grand point to us. Very man vs nature ending. I think there also is something telling about how the final girl is literally just trying to escape the woods and that is her grand battle after she runs away.

agreed but I will say once it gets to the final girls perspective, I think all of that is filled with so much dread and theres some really intense scenes there particularly with her being trapped in the woods and then everything from that convo about the bear and then stopping the car to stop the bleeding

The quarry, head through guts kill wow.

Thought it was good. Very novel idea that I think was slightly hindered by the dialogue. Everything else was very good

  • this was really cool, I liked the idea and I thought they executed it pretty well. I was expecting the walking to be worse from some of the reviews but it really wasn’t that bad to me cause there was usually always some talking or something else going on. also great kills, especially that yoga one

Yeah, I like the very direct way that this movie shows the process of trauma. I loved the "lone survivor ranger" from his previous rampage and how Johnny's so fixated on him, I love Johnny's (apparently abusive) relationship with his parents/locket, and I love how Johnny has made such an impression on this woman that the sounds of his violence becomes his footsteps in her head. Plus I mean, not for nothing, that nigga ain't gonna bury himself back under there so for all intents and purposes, he's still running wild!

Pretty damn good all in all. Respect the commitment to the premise (no music, a cold, detached strait laced camera).

Felt like an anthropological study of Jason Voorhees.

    Coming to VOD June 28th

Saw this last night at a Q&A with the cast and crew. I kept my expectations low and it was actually pretty good.

A lot funnier than I thought it would be. Several scenes had the audience dying.

There's one kill in here that's hall of fame level IMO. For anyone that's seen it, I'm referring to the yoga girl's head being pulled through her stomach. Absolutely insane scene.

Great callback to friday pt 2 as the woman driving in the end was Vickie in pt 2, even down to the leg slash and the mask he decided to wear
