Bro. Kanye sent a wave with MBDTF followed by WTT that was caught by OF and then dissipated slowly thereafter but had all of pop culture firing on all cylindersz

Yea,it was a genuine moment of creativity in music period. This was before the industry knew how to commercialize the internet,so labels had to experiment with the artist. The only reason OF got a major label deal is cause labels just wanted in on the hype.

OF wasn’t even signed at this point,Jimmy Fallon was going off pure hype and featured f***ing Odd Future on live national tv. Nothing mainstream about them

  • Sep 19, 2020

Yes, 2010-2015 was honestly one of the best times in rap and hip hop

As an of stan, it pains me to say this but they were definitely industry plants. earl and b****** were both on pitchfork, they were cosigned by ye, they were on fallon, all before a deal. Def industry plant s***

Nah,I think labels seen the support and fans they received while making somewhat inaccessible music. They peeped the mostly white fanbase and didn’t know how to market them so they gave them opportunities like Fallon to gauge their hype. They came to a decision and gave OF a deal where Sony distributed the albums and they made the music they wanted.

I don’t remember profit percentages but I think it was in OF’s favor. If they were gonna plant someone at that time,it was gonna probably be a Big Sean clone or some s***. OF was just unique man,I feel like it f***ed labels up to see that kinda music get hype. I still think OF is the reason why Death Grips got signed to a major lol.

Bruh clancey was a hitter in the industry for a while before tyler linked with him and it was clancey who brought them in and discovered them early on. acting like they got what they got strictly off their art is just not true. Sean is less of a plant. Everyone knows seans story. And it wasnt like he met ye and got signed. There was like a 3 year period after he first met ye where he kept trying to get on with him. He was signed since graduation. He was in the industry but definitely not a plant. Dude was putting in work on the blogs back in the day with his uknowbigsean series and freestyles. I love OF but they def were plants. granted, what seperates them from other plants, like what seperates ye from his peers, is what they do with that platform

edit: realized you said a sean clone. They did do that a few times. But OF def had big backing. Their music isnt as inaccessible as you think. they were eminem clones mostly and eminem is the highest selling rapper ever. There was and is a huge market for shock rap horror core s***.

I have no nostalgia for this era

  • This was the golden era for us 90s kids tbh. If you were in HS and starting college during this time, you know how well we were fed and inspired during this time thanks to the music during this time. It was an amazing time.

  • Sep 19, 2020

Nah you’re just being nostalgic, it was pretty mid

The age in between filler packed CDs and filler packed steaming albums was 2009-2015

Which makes it the best rap era for albums thus the best era for rap.
